I don't think it's the grammatical problems that are really holding the joke back from greatness.

I’m confused, why is this called Coronavirus, it is a form of Coronavirus yes but so was SARS. Why hasn’t this virus been given it’s own specific title?

Well it is "novel coronavirus" or nCoV technically, just like SARS was SARS-CoV, and all the other variations have their own identifier, people just tend to have ditched the novel bit for brevity I guess.

Think they're calling it Covid-19 now.

There must be a bunch of nerds in these labs who spend hours trying to get these things defined by some vaguely threatening name or a snappy acronym.

I suppose you could argue it's easier to educate the public about something if it's name is easy to remember.

A snappy name will always get more recognition, hence why the Golden State Killer was such a big deal and so many other prolific killers are not.

It's also where you kill. California gets you more coverage.
