I have never ever seen the underground even remotely quiet.

Many lines are virtually empty during the day; usage has been steadily falling for years (millions of fewer journeys) which in recent years has led to heavy losses for TfL.

I guess the news is conveniently not reporting about those lines

Underground usage is down 92% on this time last year apparently.

The Indian lockdown looks like it's going well.

I've found it has a tendency to vary quite dramatically.

On one tube trip i did in February, it was standing room only and packed like sardines from South Kensington to Green Park (Piccadilly Line), then loads of people suddenly left at the latter station, and for the next few stops, it got quieter and quieter until i was in an almost empty carriage when i finally arrived at Kings Cross.

My partner's company are furloughing employees, and so he's going down to 80% pay.

This is a bit of a blow as we weren't expecting it, my pay is low because I'm a student, and he's worried about job security overall. Also it has no defined end point right now.

Also useful to have something to do and focus on when there's nowhere to go.

On the plus side, we're not going to be spending much because summer has been pretty much cancelled.

That purchasing decision does seem like an odd one, Hexx, and worthy of highlight. I'd have thought that the urgency of obtaining the kit would have meant that all purchasing channels would have been used. I can understand the desire to route the money to UK firms but in this case I'm not sure that should be the main objective.

Even so, I don't think there was a need for your "daily reminder" embellishment. It appears that the government could legitimately be the target for your wrath but your political icing is a little tiring.

But that's literally the thrust of the story? It's a political decision being made in the face of a problem that gives zero gooseberry fools about this kind of thing. The people in power are making a bad move because of their inherent prejudices caused by Brexit.

I see no problem in either The Guardian or Hexx commenting on that.

The government is playing politics with peoples lives. The whole Brexit thing should be shelved while this crap is going on.

We’ve left the EU, but there’s no real reason we can’t benefit from the bulk buying advantages. Well no reason other than Johnson’s bloody minded bullshit.

We need more ventilators to save lives.

This stops us getting more ventilators to save lives, completely unnecessarily.

If I can't go out or see friends or anything, they can put down their bullshit Brexit ideologies for a while. The moment is about sacrifice.

*Ahem*

Brexiteer Tory banana split decides to forgo an EU wide bulk buying scheme from tested supplies to bung contract to Brexiteer Tory banana split’s untested firm making them for first time

It wouldn’t be a daily reminder except they keep finding new ways to be banana splits everyday

My point wasn't that the government shouldn't be challenged (they should) nor that people shouldn't comment (they should).

I disliked Hexx's approach of the story being a "daily reminder" that "Brexit/Tories" are "banana splits". Sure, I know he'll be supported by some folk here in saying that, but on that basis I'm just as equally okay to suggest he goes about things in a deliberately provocative way. He's free to do that - within the rules of the forum - but I'm just as free to respond.

I would never discuss this with you, Winckle, because your way of thinking is clearly so black and white. In your eyes, I suspect that any and every situation is 100% right or 100% wrong. In my view there are degrees of variation for most life situations and I won't make knee-jerk reactions to satisfy your line of thinking.

My workplace is going to furlough about 45/98 staff from Monday. Having the consultation tomorrow to find out if I'll still be working or if I have a 3 month 'holiday'.
