BBC news website wrote: The UK government was being hit with criticism earlier for not joining a EU scheme to get ventilators to the health providers that need them.

But it seems like it was just a case of the invite being lost in the mail.

The prime minister's spokesman said this morning that the UK was "making it's own efforts" to source more ventilators.

But this statement has now been updated to say: “Owing to an initial communication problem, the UK did not receive an invitation in time to join in four joint procurements in response to the coronavirus pandemic."

The spokesman says the European Commission has confirmed the UK is eligible to take part in any further procurements though during the so-called transition period after Brexit.

So, he adds: "We will consider participating in future procurement schemes on the basis of public health requirements at the time."

Out of embarrassment they went from “lol strawberry float the EU!” to “gooseberry fool, the dog ate the email”

Lie, lie, lie. They absolutely deserve to be called banana splits.

I don't trust them on this, and I don't think anyone should.

We have been delivered 50 paper masks from the enteral stock order that's been distributed between NHS, care homes and community services. So they're away under lock and key until we get a suspected case. And when they run out, I dunno. Maybe the residents might knit us some?

What the strawberry float just happened?

Was hearing weird noises like fireworks so looked outside and every single person in my cul-de-sac was stood at their front doors clapping.

I'm so confused and I have no idea what was going on. If it was a sign of solidarity, I never got the memo :(

I feel like such an arsehole now. I was literally the only house not clapping. How can I have been following this pandemic 24/7 for two weeks and had no idea I was supposed to be clapping.

Anxiety rising :'(

I wouldn't worry, i didn't clap either, though that was because firstly, i didn't realise what time it was, and secondly, i was on the bog.

There were a number of folk clapping in my part of the street and I was kinda surprised as it is pretty busy.

Best way to show solidarity with the NHS is to stay indoors.

The ambulance was down my road today dealing with one of my neighbours and while one of the crew was faffing around with one of the canisters a delivery driver went up to him and asked if he had a spare mask. :fp:

I didn't clap either (not that I can), seems pointless clapping at an empty street.

I mean the NHS does a bloody amazing job and all that, but bolocks to clapping in unison.

Feels pretty irresponsible to be giving the NHS the clap at a time like this.
