Opening Post status: work in progress.

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

You should only leave your home for very limited purposes:

shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home

To help yourself stay well while you're at home:

stay in touch with family and friends over the phone or on social media
try to keep yourself busy – you could try activities like cooking, reading, online learning and watching films
do light exercise at home, or outside once a day – see NHS fitness studio: exercises you can do at home
consider taking 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day if you’re indoors most of the day – this is to keep your bones and muscles healthy

Do not leave your home if you have either:

a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Using tech to help:

https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/15/coronavirus-what-were-doing-and-how-you-can-help-in-simple-terms/

Downloading Folding@home and helping us run simulations is the primary way to contribute. These calculations are enormous and every little bit helps! Each simulation you run is like buying a lottery ticket. The more tickets we buy, the better our chances of hitting the jackpot. Usually, your computer will never be idle, but we’ve had such an enthusiastic response to our COVID-19 work that you will see some intermittent downtime as we sprint to setup more simulations. Please be patient with us! There is a lot of valuable science to be done, and we’re getting it running as quickly as we can.

https://www.nhs.uk/coronavirus-status-checker

This survey will help the NHS understand more about how and where coronavirus (COVID-19) is affecting people now.

By answering some quick questions, you can help the NHS plan its response to coronavirus.

The NHS especially wants to hear from you if you have symptoms, no matter how mild. But it also helps if you let us know if you’re feeling OK.

In some decent COVID news, Charlie Brooker is doing an Anti-Viral-Wipe!

For the first time since the Bafta-winning 2016 Wipe, Charlie Brooker (picture above, courtesy of Matt Holyoak) has been lured out of isolation, to go into isolation for the one-off Charlie Brooker's Antiviral Wipe (w/t) (1x30').

Charlie will be taking a typically sharp look at life in lockdown, in a show made during lockdown. As well as coverage of the crisis itself, he'll also be looking at the things people are watching and doing to keep themselves occupied. The show will also feature Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan) with her own very special brand of in-depth reporting, alongside Barry Shitpeas (Al Campbell) and other contributors who haven't been told they're doing it yet, but have no good excuse not to.

Charlie Brooker says: “The BBC asked me to supply a quote for the press release, which is what you’re reading now."

For anyone who has their car insurance with Admiral, they’re refunding all policy holders £25 due to the virus (they realise nobody is driving anywhere).

Is that something you have to apply for or are they doing it automatically?

They’re saying it’ll automatically be credited by the end of May.

Considering I pay them £100 a month it's not great. Although I'll take what I can get and I have been driving a little bit.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

There's absolutely no way claims have gone down by the level that they can give all policyholders £25 back into their pockets, this is pure PR. And bloody good PR at that.

Before we talk about coronavirus, I have some bad news about the EU. And the US president.

The new Nintendo is a great console though.
