Really sorry to hear that, MCN. I hope she recovers well.

Just had a half hour walk around my local area and was deeply saddened by the amount of people I saw breaking the guidelines. I kept away from everyone but I saw multiple groups of people failing to uphold any kind of social distancing and, in several instances, they were stood chatting on paths which forced other people to walk directly through their groups. I just had to nope out of there and take another route but it was a similar story everywhere I went. People catching up in the street, not keeping kids in check, no one making space.

The entire journey has just left me feeling depressed.

Hope your mum is doing well MCN.

My wife is still feeling crap, coughing up all sorts of gooseberry fool now and is just permanently tired. I'm starting to feel a bit gooseberry fool again, which has been building over the past few days, a lot of headaches, which seem to come on the second I'm not drinking any water. Stop drinking water, bam dry throat and headache. I feel like I'm getting something again, which is impossible as we've not been anywhere, so I have to assume it's this just hanging around and moving in waves.

Sounds like she might have the longer version of it. I remember you saying about this around the time my bro and his wife got it. They are both over the hump, although neither can taste or smell currently. Hope you both get better soon.

Just had a nice long video chat with her. She's doing OK, just feeling a but flu-y at the moment, but she's still in good spirits. She went for a swab test today, so is waiting for the results of that now.

She's a nurse in a busy hospital, and she has diabetes so she's immunocompromised. I was less than happy with her going to work un these conditions, and now she's going to tell HR and Occupational Health that she doesn't feel safe going back to work, even if the swab test comes back clear.

Covid-19: Oxford University vaccine shows 70% protection

The coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford stops 70% of people developing Covid symptoms, a large scale trial shows.

It is both a triumph and a disappointment after vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna showed 95% protection.

However, the Oxford jab is far cheaper, and is easier to store and get to every corner of the world than the other two.

So it will still play a significant role in tackling the pandemic, if it is approved by regulators.

There is also intriguing data that suggests perfecting the dose could increase protection up to 90%.

The Oxford researchers have performed the normally decade-long process of developing a vaccine in around 10 months.

"The announcement today takes us another step closer to the time when we can use vaccines to bring an end to the devastation caused by [the virus]," said the vaccine's architect Prof Sarah Gilbert.

The UK government has pre-ordered 100 million doses of the Oxford vaccine, enough to immunise 50 million people.

More than 20,000 volunteers were involved, half in the UK, the rest in Brazil.

There were 30 cases of Covid in people who had two doses of the vaccine and 101 cases in people who received a dummy injection.

The researchers said it works out at 70% protection.

When volunteers were given two "high" doses the protection was 62%, but this rose to 90% when people were given a "low" dose followed by a high one. It's not clear why there is a difference.

"We're really pleased with these results," Prof Andrew Pollard, the trial's lead investigator, told the BBC.

He said the 90% effectiveness data was "intriguing" and would mean "we would have a lot more doses to distribute."

How come they haven't lead with the 90% for 'low then high' option? Was it just done as a secondary test, so has much less data and wasn't the scenario they're trying to get regulation for?

Whether it's 70% or 90%, they should close the gyms until they get it to 99.99%.

Destroy all gyms. We have Ring Fit now, society has moved beyond the need for gyms.

Gyms and all shops to reopen after English lockdown

Gyms and non-essential shops in all areas are expected to be allowed to reopen when England's lockdown ends.

I can't wait to get down the gym and take pictures of myself looking in to my phone, perhaps with a used towel carefully draped over one shoulder :toot:

So, I've been prepping, my body throughout the week for the sessions to come, and the time finally arrived this morning! Ok so, I've been reading a lot of negative views on the gyms saying it's not safe. Ok so to show it's safe, here is a photo of me working out.

So, keep on pushing, keep on working, reach for the top and I know we can smash this!
