Northern Ireland has opened vaccine appointments for ages 35 to 39. I know we've got some Norn Iron folk on here, just not sure if you're on the wrong side of your 30s.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-56799557

Vaccine appointments for a limited number of people aged between 35 and 39-years-old are being made available from today.

The Department of Health said it is the latest phase of the vaccine roll out.

It said bookings will open to the entire 35-39 age group by the end of April.

The slots are mainly for the SSE Arena vaccine centre in Belfast and can be booked on a first come first served basis from 14:00 BST.

Appointments in community pharmacies will be made available to 35-39 year olds later this month depending on vaccine supplies.

Based on it being in a large vaccine centre it's very likely it would be Moderna as the vaccine.

They opened up vaccines for 35-39 year olds in NI, so I'm booked in for Thursday.

Edit - Grumpy David being an absolute lad there

Can't help but look on enviously as other countries seem to be getting the vaccine rollout to people on my age bracket quicker. I know loads of Americans my age/younger than me and they all seem to have gotten a jab now. Plus Biden 's now announced that everyone over 16 is now eligible.

I guess I just won't really feel comfortable until I'm vaccinated and thus feel a bit left out of all the "OMG RESTRICTIONS ARE LIFTING!!" hype going around because I won't be doing any of that stuff until I have the jab.

Good to hear it. I got mine earlier in the year as I work for the trust. It's disappointing there's no news on bars and restaurants opening back up here when the TV is showing on the footage from England. :(

The only countries really going faster than us are the US. Most European countries haven't even gone down to 50+ yet. I got chewed out on another forum by Europeans complaining that we're going too fast and it's not fair.

According to this, based on doses per 100 people, in terms of countries with significant populations Israel, UAE and Chile are ahead of us:

The US are slightly behind. It depends what you mean by "faster" really.

Yeah it's all relative and depends on what you are looking at - US are behind in terms of "vaccinations per population", but they've fully vaccinated way more than we have.

It's not fake, it was made in a Chinese laboratory by Bill Gates.

Lolwut

I do agree with the rest though, if you're based in the UK you're very fortunate when it comes to vaccines (even if it doesn't necessarily feel like it right now).

With regards to vaccination speeds, I guess the priority was always getting as many jabs into the arms of vulnerable people as quickly as possible - since the vast majority of protection comes from the first dose. And the UK did all that ages ago, while many European countries sadly still have a way to go on that front.

I'm sure by the summer we'll all pretty much be at the same level with vaccination numbers, but I think the damage of the initial slow rollout has already been done in much of Europe.

We're FINALLY ramping up significantly here. I reckon in August Most of the EU will be vaccinated, western Europe anyway.

I've not seen much data yet on the lasting effects of the vaccine which is going to be one of the interesting aspects, I thought I saw a quote from Pfizer a while back indicating that they thought annual boosters might be required.

There's a chance that we might find ourselves getting toward late summer without having vaccinated everyone in this first round and have to switch back to giving the most vulnerable a booster before we head into winter. :dread:

Its obviously a massive pain for the people having to carry it out, but I'd have no problem having a booster jab every 6 months that has rolling updates to fend off variants (if possible in that time frame of course). Its a really effortless proceedure really, and it'd quickly become a normal thing.
