I was at a trade show at the NEC during the week. Thousands of people there across the three/four days, all indoors in an unventilated (albeit large) space. To gain access you had to show an NHS covid pass or a recent lateral flow test to some disinterested staff at a checkpoint, neither of which were actually examined for validity in any way, and given a wristband with 2 days. Not a mask in sight, because it was "safe" and everyone felt like there were "appropriate measures" in place. Worse than that, there was an awards dinner (hosted by Kevin Keegan
) with around 800 people in a much smaller room for around 7 hours all standing or sitting shoulder to shoulder. On the trains there and back, only about half people wearing masks, but the trains were nearly full.
Unsurprisingly my line manager tested positive for covid, as did a customer who visited our stand. I had a PCR test yesterday and it came back negative but doesn't really take much to see why we have such a huge problem with cases.
