I'm hoping my son has misunderstood and that the parents of that kid haven't sent him to school even though his brother has it. :dread:

Technically under 18s don't need to isolate even if they live with someone who is positive

Apart from Private Eye, I can't remember the last time long covid was mentioned in the media. Are we pretending all those affected don't exist?

They've managed to get the entire focus of this to be on mask wearing. No masks = everything is normal.

Cut to five years time where the headlines will be "Disability Living Allowance claims are skyrocketing. Can we really afford it?"

It's so gooseberry fool it's being painted that the only reason people are still working from home is because they're 'scared' of the virus.

There is the initial issue, with the implication and connotation being that if you're wary of contracting a virus that has killed millions of people and left millions more with crippling long-term effects, you're somehow a pathetic wimp worthy only of ridicule.

But the broader issue is them trying to shift any and all focus away from the idea that actually it's just immeasurably better to not have to commute every day, not have to spend extra money whether you can afford to or not, have additional time with your family etc etc.

It's a mix of jealousy from those who can't work from home, and hypocrisy from those who do, but think only they should be allowed to. Plus a hefty dose of selfishness from those who profit from people being forced to commute unnecessarily.

My niece tested positive today. The school is sticking with isolating for 10 days but her brother is allowed in school which seems odd, although I'm not as up to date on school rules as I'd like. Apparently my nephew was in tears last night because he thought he wouldn't be able to go to school, I think the last two years has impacted him more than we thought. I wish I could make things right for them both while keeping them safe.

I work deliveries and stack shelves as a job so no chance of working from home, the whole working from home thing doesn't help me in the slightest, and yet I thinking working from home is a brilliant thing that shouldn't be dropped, it lowers polution , allows for some people to have more control over there lives and waste less time due to a lack of travel, it's something that should really stay.

Get back to the office you worksky scrounger! The boomer generation didn't talk constantly as though they were part of the effort to win WW2 for your lazy ass.

To be fair, statistically it's likely at least one of Boris' children will have covid at any given time

So I tested Positive on Saturday, first thought it was just a cold after testing Negative on Friday but have got worse since then. Still testing positive now, I'm properly knackered, achy all over, continuous cough and I'm out of breath just getting dressed/walking down the stairs. Not good. Been off work all week, boss has told me to stay off until I'm feeling better even if though I work from home anyway. He'd rather I rest than try to work and make myself feel worse. Thankfully wife and kid haven't caught it yet, they've been testing daily.

I think it's less about school and more about the isolation. When my brother read his diary a while back (my nephew showed him because he found it easier than verbalising what he was feeling) some of his entries about loneliness and isolation were heartbreaking. We know he bottles things up because he doesn't want to upset anyone and then they come out when things get too much. We've always (even pre-covid) tried to reassure him that he can talk to us about anything so it's really upsetting to see him struggle like this. I think his primary school has set up a group for kids who are struggling with their mental health which is something I guess, I just wish I could do more to help him.
