Huh, Toadmeister seems a fitting name - in an 80's childhood insult kind of way.

Hey let's totally downplay the danger of this pandemic which has caused grief to hundreds of thousands of people already.

I'd say this whole corona situation smells like bullshit but I can't actually smell anything at the moment. No idea what that could be, probably just a cold.

OK but does anyone know of anyone who's died from it?

OK but does anyone know of anyone who didn't have a pre-existing condition?

OK but... it's the flu.

Seen this BBC news NI tweet about this guy (Martin Ward, you call him) who lost both of his parents within hours of each other.

You still had people going on the comments underneath it, 'aye, but it's...'

Like...just strawberry float off you cancerous pieces of shite.

I've heard variations of those from a few people. If you don't know anyone that's had it, that means they've successfully isolated from it, or others have kept it from them, it doesnt mean it doesn't exist. Aids? Yeah I don't know anyone with it mate, bullshit if you ask me, no worse than flu.

Same thing happened with a family in, I think, Wales. An elderly man lost his wife and two sons within three days of each other and they received abuse after appearing on Channel 4 News.

More than 400 pupils are self isolation at one of the high schools in my town with ten of them confirmed positive. 6 teachers tested positive and there's 13 of them isolating altogether. strawberry float knows how on earth they've managed that when one of the other high schools of a similar size has had only 1 case.

I’m sorry but I’m kind of having a panic over this again. I’m involved in the local NHS vaccine planning and I think it’s all going to be too late.
It’s clear from the numbers of alerts, isolation notifications and letters from the school that the virus is spreading exponentially again. I feel like it’s going to be a full on disaster in December and January, hospitals over loaded, deaths in the thousands. I’m sitting in my office crying a bit and shaking. Sorry to off load, but it’s getting too much and somehow saying this on a games forum helps.
Please all stay safe, treasure those you love, and be kind to eachother.

It moved from tier 2 to 3 last week. I haven't looked at the actual numbers in a few weeks but I'm still blaming St Andrews uni for the high numbers since they increased rapidly last month as soon as the students returned and the semester started.

Thank you. Remember there's ultimately nothing you can do personally to stop this, so try not to beat yourself up over it.

The situation with universities forcing students to return to their accommodation while having classes almost entirely online has been nothing short of disgusting. A pure money grab with no thought given to the consequences on the students themselves.

Thank you for your work on this. You can only do what you can do. It isn't your fault.

We've seen just how quickly Covid19 spreads, but we are supposed to believe it was in Europe in September but nobody noticed until January?

The paper seems pretty legit actually https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0300891620974755 though obviously it's always possible they made a mistake. It'll undoubtedly spark further investigations into blood samples from that time period, so we'll get confirmation soon.

Pfft I'm not reading all that. :dread: ;)

I assumed it was another "China virus! Look at the car parks!" load of bollocks.

Yeah I get it. "China knew!!! They released it on purpose!!! To kill all the whites!!!" is conspiracy theory nonsense, obviously. What might have happened is that there were small outbreaks in various places before anyone knew there was a new virus causing it, that we can find historical evidence for.

How would the small outbreaks fizzle out thouhhh? Was it just luck that people didnt pass it on to enough people for it to spread more dramatically?

That'd be my question. We've seen how quickly this virus spreads, why was it so quiet from September until January/February/March?

Building up DNA points before putting them all into mutations that raise infectivity, or course.
