I'm sure the Tory government has their top advisors investigating exactly how this is happening.

The daily average for testing hasn't dropped enough to explain the much larger drop in positive tests and the percentage of tests coming back positive hasn't changed either so it doesn't seem like this would have anything like a huge impact on the data.

The website crashed on Monday for an hour or so but I don't think tests ran out.

Seems like the best singular explanation for the drop still remains the Euros ending.

I think the Euros ending aligns with the timing of the drop, since it takes a week or two for things to have an effect, probably the best theory. Schools ending will bolster that reduced transmission, but opening up fully will cancel that out a bit.

The amount of the adult population now with antibodies is arguably as high as it could ever realistically be, or at least starting to get very close to it.

It's all hinging now on when the hospitalisations start to fall again, and whether the NHS can treat the overall hospitalisations in this third wave as an acceptable/practical amount for the benefit of opening up. Very difficult to predict, many experts have been way off with their predictions and ideas with this third wave in general I find, compared to the 2nd wave.

The wave in the Netherlands seems to be coming down too, which is weird.

I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, what could be the justification? Why should only your first infection be counted?

Reinfections are counted and reported on separately on a weekly basis as they account for less than 1% of cases.

Monday was always lower back in t'day. It's tomorrow we might expect a bump.

But also oh gooseberry fool, welcome to Tory rule for the rest of our lives.

Edit - disclaimer: I am happy people don't appear to be getting sick in as large numbers as before.

Well in that case I for one welcome Supreme Leader Boris Johnson and would like to know where I can purchase a portrait for permanent display in every room in my house.

For FFS, the polls are all coming out showing notably shrunk Tory majorities due to events over the past week or two and now this is happening all the fickle banana splits will flock immediately back to them.

Peston has tweeted that anyone catching COVID for a second time isn't being included in the data. Hard to judge how much effect it'll have on the numbers but lower accuracy is never going to be good.

You're correct, it's actually several reasons to have him on ignore.
