England vaccine passport plans ditched

A scheme for vaccine passports for entry to nightclubs and large events in England will not be going ahead, the health secretary has said.
Sajid Javid told the BBC: "We shouldn't be doing things for the sake of it."
He said the government had looked at the evidence, adding: "I'm pleased to say we will not be going ahead."
It was thought the plan, which came under criticism from venues and some MPs, would be introduced at the end of this month.
Under the scheme, members of the public would have been required to show proof they have had two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine in order to gain entry to clubs and other crowded events.

I thought this was reported as encouraging otherwise reluctant youngsters to get vaccinated. Not “for the sake of it”.

The Tories are doing wonders for reducing the burden of the state pension.

This is clearly a politically motivated move to appease Tory bank benchers and donors after the NI rise.

Or there was never any intention of running a vaccination passport scheme as that would have required actual effort. Easier to just say you will in an effort to push up vaccination numbers and then shelve it at the point where it might cost money.

In the race to be the next approved vaccine, it seemed like a battle between Novavax and Valneva.

Novavax has been quiet for many months now and the last I'd read was having issues with scaling up the manufacturing proces.

Whilst Valneva has been dropped by the government due to alleged breach of contract, that's quite the allegation to make and must be pretty serious to warrant such a response.

That's interesting. I want the Novavax one to go online as that will be produced here so it's a more secure supply for the future if required.

That's exactly what I think, I think they just wanted to scare people that they wouldn't be able to club or do this and that without one with no intention of ever actually seeing it through.

Yes, if you do 14 days in Mexico first then Road Trip over to Florida.

It's the weirdest travel ban to have highly vaccinated Europeans banned from directly entering the only moderately vaccinated USA (or pathetic uptake if in certain States). The only explanation I can think of that might make sense is that the Oxford vaccine has been used for millions whilst it's still yet to be approved in USA.

Both Valneva and Novavax have UK bases for manufacturing, I'm sure a juicy secret will be be leaked to the press soon enough that provides more explanation on why the UK government has accused Valneva of breach of contract but my first guess would be something similar to AstraZeneca situation with the EU vs UK contracts. Would really hope it's not dodgy data (the UK trials have rolling reviews of the phase 3 data).

On our way in the next day I saw on the door that it was the owner's policy to wear masks inside, so these banana splits were getting shitty about wearing a piece of cloth over their faces while playing snooker, and would rather lie than comply.

strawberry float these selfish twats.

Also, another friend of mine has got covid. This time a 71 year old man. Went to a group meeting of 50 people just under 2 weeks ago, then 13 of them got covid from said meeting. Thank Christ he's double jabbed as he's only had mild flu conditions from it, and his wife is recovering from cancer (thankfully she didn't catch it).

Just heard back from this friend, he's over it now but one of the group went to hospital and then died from it :|

Apparently the next big thing in the world of Bullshit Covid "Cures" is Betadine, an anti-bacterial agent used for treating cuts and scrapes, which is highly toxic when ingested.

strawberry floating around and finding out is a way of life to some people, isn't it?

Weirdly self-hating that these anti-vaxxers are so scared of pricks.

The government have published their Covid plan for the autumn/winter period. It outlines two plans:

Plan A: Do nothing. Fingers crossed it's all fine!

Plan B: Maybe vaccine passports and masks become mandatory in some places again. We might ask people to work from home but we really don't want to.

I'm just off to place a bet on what really happens being something even more restrictive than Plan B because we strawberry floated it up by pursuing Plan A for too long.

If things ever get that desperate for me, I promise to live stream my final hours at Butlins before I fill my pockets with stale buffet hash browns and walk in to the sea.
