Kids these days are strawberry floating weird.

I think it's less about school and more about the isolation. When my brother read his diary a while back (my nephew showed him because he found it easier than verbalising what he was feeling) some of his entries about loneliness and isolation were heartbreaking. We know he bottles things up because he doesn't want to upset anyone and then they come out when things get too much. We've always (even pre-covid) tried to reassure him that he can talk to us about anything so it's really upsetting to see him struggle like this. I think his primary school has set up a group for kids who are struggling with their mental health which is something I guess, I just wish I could do more to help him.

Really sorry to hear that. It's awful for any kid to feel that way, but to be going through it at primary school age seems particularly sad. (Of course, I was just being facetious about the alien idea of kids wanting to go to school. Not in any way making light of his real situation.)

Don't worry, I didn't read it as anything other than facetious :) . I'm just using this thread to offload/vent my frustrations about a situation where I feel powerless to help.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

My brother in law has been testing negative since the weekend on lateral flow tests but he was feeling unwell the whole time so he took a PCR test and it was positive. That's my sister's entire household infected now.

That's interesting. What vaccine is that article referring to. The flu vaccine wasn't developed until the 30s I believe. I'm assuming this is from 1918/19.

I assume that headline is later than 1918, I think it's referring to drafted soldiers in WW2.

Yeah I wondered that after posting.

So - in a shock move NPHET (Ireland's National Public Health Emergency Team - who are usually overly cautious!) has given the government the green light to open absolutely everything. No covid certs, no restrictions on crowds, nightclubs open, no need for covid certs...

It's thanks to an extremely high vaccination rate and an additionally high Booster take up.
We past the Omicron Peak over Christmas also.

Masks remain for public transport and shopping but holy strawberry float it looks like we are out of it! :toot: :toot:

We also got an additional 'permanent' bank holiday every year, that puts us on 10, 2 more than the UK! :slol:

I absolutely love that NPHET pull the rug out from under the government constantly. The lads are talking up a phased ropening, saying they want things to open but theyll have to see what the advice is, desperate to give good news but dont want to do it and then have to row it back, then NPHET roll up and just "strawberry float it, open everything".

It's very amusing, I presume because the numbers have decreased and the ICU patients have declined means we can open but yeah, it's kind of mad that for once they are more optimistic than the government!

My employer wants us back in the office for half our time starting February.

Lateral flow tests moving from must be taken, logged and shown at the door, to personal preference.

Personally I'm fully vaccinated and low risk, so I'm more put out by having to travel, only for a lesser desk setup than I have at home. For those who are at, or have close family at higher risk, this policy will surely not go down well, especially as case numbers are still pretty high.

I don't understand the logic from a business perspective either, surely it will see more people isolating as a consequence.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I think moving forward if your unhappy with work place policy about being forced to go in then it needs raising and if you can change Jobs.

Hopefully that will make business listen to staff if enough people leave.

Can't have anyone with Long Covid if you don't refer them

I'd worry this going to be a thing with anyone suffering from it "work shy"/"lazy"/"benefit claimer" etc from the right wing press.

Just hearing on the news that the government haven’t simply removed the requirement for school kids to wear masks, but they’re actually trying to outlaw masks. They’re threatening schools that intend keeping masks for now, saying that kids must not be allowed to wear them. Where is the sense in that?

There seems to be a growing number of people claiming that "only" 17k died of covid because of this:

Come on, Moggy. It's like how John Lennon died just after being shot, but he had an underlying drugs addiction and guns are good and drugs are bad so he actually died from drugs mmmkay?

Unfortunately the clinically vulnerable will continue to die and the vast majority won't even acknowledge the fact, let alone care.

Flay Boris and his whole party.

It's actually great news that we don't have to wear condoms ever again because nobody ever died of AIDS.

Has anyone been following the latest anti vax attempts to arrest police officers and nhs staff under common law and a supposed crime number that’s actually a closed incident report. It’s amazing how many of these people there are up and down the country who are so brain washed. If you listen to their tone and watch their body language they all seem mentally unwell.
