I don't get the complaints about his latest modeling though, with the caveat that it will change dependent on data it seems sensible to me.

With the caveat that Rocsteady was completely wrong about what lockdowns we had and for how long in Ireland (unironically disputing it with people living here), I think slowing re-opening until medically feasible is a common sense approach and as much as you can blame the UK government for the insane death rate, they have to be commended for the fast vaccination and lockdown approach more recently...

The horrible truth is that if we mess this up, we ultimately can't lockdown forever. There will come a point when it is not just economically unviable, but suicidal. I think we may well see measures in the future, but a full lockdown would have to be something catastrophic. Its always worth remembering the other side of the coin that lockdown for a lot of people is an absolute disaster destroying their lives. If you are in a position to be comfortable in lockdown, well done. Ultimately, the mistakes in this pandemic were made early, everything else has been largely a shitshow of its making.

What a twat. Bringing up a completely unrelated argument after I conceded the Irish site I was looking at seemed to be incorrect. Had forgotten all about that discussion but good to see you're keeping score.

You're not wrong when you say "we can't lockdown forever", but no-one is asking for that. Lockdowns are unavoidable at a certain level of infection to stop hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. The reason we're caught in a cycle of those lockdowns is that they've been eased off without implementing a long-term strategy for managing the level of infection in the country.

@ Rocsteady: You conceded after the fact and 2 of us told you what was happening, you didn't concede when we literally told you that you were wrong, so yeah I am keeping score.

This.

One big lockdown to rule them all sort of approach is happening at moment across the UK and Europe and if it works, I personally think it's worth it.

It's fine if you don't like someone, but there's no need to hold a grudge about an argument if it's in the past. It would be better to just let it go. Not trying to wind you up, just my opinion.

You do you man. If you're that precious about Ireland that I followed an Irish website's information - conceded I was wrong once corrected - and still can't let it go to the extent you're bringing it up in unrelated discussions, that reflects a lot worse on you than it does me.

FWIW I'm all for debates/(reasoned) arguments as that's what makes an online community in my eyes, this just seems pretty random to hold onto for weeks or however long it's been.

Seeing mixed news stories on Q2 supplies of the Oxford vaccine across the EU being affected on top of the Q1 supplies already affected. Yesterday was just stories on how supplies would be half the expected level whilst today it's no change to supply. :?

Interesting side effect of Lockdown and extra high take up of the Flu vaccine. Looks like we've practically eradicated Flu in the UK.

Will make it tricky to identify which flu strain is likely to be the one to mass produce for 2021 Winter.
