I heard one last night as well. We're completely and utterly strawberry floated.

The second peak is going to be 100x worse than the first.

It's like going back in time to the days of the "penny lick" where ice cream vendors would go around reusing a single glass bowl that customers would lick and return for use by the next person and everyone wondered why it was spreading diseases like TB and cholera! :fp:

strawberry floating ice cream will always be the death of us!

The ice cream van that comes down my road is always playing the jingle to say he's sold out of ice cream. Considering this has now been happening to me for over 30 years, I must be incredibly unlucky. :x

Why do you think the second peak is going to be 100x worse?

I expect a second peak in July but:

> The NHS should be better resourced and prepared
> We're not lifting all lockdown procedures and people will still take some mitigation so that should reduce transmissions
> Some of the country is now immune, reducing transmission levels, probably not significantly but still some impact

I think this phasing of peaks and troughs is what we're going to be doing until we can vaccinate to be honest. I don't see why the peaks will get worse though unless the virus mutates, which is obviously a worrying possibility.

Bus nudes:

A bus.

Front door boarding will be reinstated on further bus routes as soon as possible, and it is anticipated that all London buses will have returned to front-door boarding by mid-June. You can check for updates on our website.

This change follows extensive work by a multidisciplinary team from University College of London (UCL), and close work between TfL, bus operators and the UNITE union. The UCL analysis finds that the steps that we have taken substantially reduces the risk to drivers of contracting coronavirus from customers.

Going back to pre-pandemic boarding will improve social distancing for customers entering or exiting the bus, and while queuing at stops or stations, as well as giving us accurate information to ensure we are providing the service needed to enable safe travel for all.

To further ensure the safety of everyone, new limits to the number of customers on board at any one time will be introduced. Please continue to make use of all available space, including the upper deck. You may need to wait for the next bus if the bus you are attempting to board has reached its safe capacity. We ask you to be considerate of our staff and follow their instructions. Wherever possible please avoid the busy times, 05.45am – 8.15am and 4.00pm – 5.30pm.

If that was a plot point in the beginning of an 'end of the world' film none no-one would accept it as believable.

The transmission rate is going to get much worse again, worse than with the first peak as people have long since stopped giving a gooseberry fool. Thousands more people are going to die and apparantly we need to be ok with this?

We had 1000+ new cases yesterday, now is NOT THE TIME TO REOPEN.

Does anyone remember that half jokey theory doing the rounds when Trump won? That our reality was just some AI programme that had run its course, and they'd activated the end of the world protocol or something? Yeah. I strawberry floating believe that now.

Why though? Attitudes have been relaxed but there are still plenty of lockdown measures in place. Things will start picking up in the next few weeks and more restrictions will have to come into place again, but I still can't see why the transmission rate is going to get much worse. Last time we started from a point where nobody was doing anything at all.

The behavioural science assumed no-one would listen to lockdown rules, and everyone seems to think they’re complying more with the guidance than their neighbours because they’re all seeing the same few instances amplified upwards.

We may be a bit slower to comply with a second, stricter lockdown than the first time but the main danger is going to be whether the government delays implementing those measures, like they’ve already done, or even sits back and does nothing.

It was the large hadron collider. It split us off into an alternate reality. We got the bad universe.
