strawberry float, I live in Greater Manchester and got family in the Lake District and Essex I've not seen since Feb, and was hoping to see them in a month or so. Guess that wont be happening. In fact, they were hoping I could join them this week - would I have just have to leave today if I were there now? "Sorry guys, looks likes I've grown more dangerous overnight - must be off now."

Hancock said you could travel out of the lockdown zone if you wanted, I think. So if you visit them, that's okay?

BBC news reporting masks now mandatory in cinemas. So i guess they won't be selling/allowing in food.

Hopefully cinemas can survive with the huge cut to revenue.

Wish my image sig would work

I'm working under the assumption that I should listen to the official guidance more than Hancock (as they contradict), but it could be he's had more information and the official guidelines will be changed soon and he just spoke too early. I've got a few weeks for things to become clearer, at least - but it'll be frustrating for those who don't.

You can still have it up to 30 people I think

For now.

3 months away and we don't even know if it'll take place. And the ham-fisted response angers me.

Mine was supposed to be the 4th of July, then we pushed it back until August 28th. :(

Just gotta hope that these two weeks prove effective enough to allow the 30 people to happen again.

It's too dangerous to continue easing the national lockdown but anyone at high risk is safe to go to work again from tomorrow.

Where can I sign up to the revolution?

Either way the UK (England) is in the top 3 no matter how nuanced we are

I'm not sure there's any evidence for that first para is there?

2.5million infections suggest not.

There were some studies I read a few months ago that were conducted over Q1 and Q2 this year that seemed to suggest that the optimum temperature for transmission was something like (off the top of my head because I can't find the exact paper I was reading at the time) was between 4C and 14C (which at the time was between the 30N and 60N corridor which just misses Brazil). It did conclude however that worldwide results through to September would prove this conclusively one way or another.

Unfortunately I can't find the graphic which showed this quite nicely across a map of a world but I have found this one...

Flying in tomorrow morning so doing my part.

Quite paranoid about it, the plane looks very full unfortunately so simply need to hope for the best.

We've gone from basically a full (socially distant) house of 15 to just 2 over night. I don't blame people for being concerned and so on but as a business FFFFUUUUU :dread: :dread: :dread:

Brazil is being very badly affected. They have a deaths/day above 1,000 and their deaths/million so far is above 400. We just aren't hearing about it as much as we are hearing about the US.

There's a lot of interesting, mostly unconfirmed, theories about the extent to which differences in climate are affecting the transmissibility of the virus. I don't think you can look at Brazil and say that the tropics are strongly more resilient to outbreaks though.

Oh I think my original point on Brazil got taken out of context in that it could well have been worse, not that everything is going great over there. I am well aware they are one of the worst performing countries in the world.

I know the feeling mate. Ours was planned for October but luckily we have a back-up date all sorted for a year later. Still sucks though :(

What i am hearing from the NHS world is that things could get bad come winter as in double the deaths we had during peak 1. I hope they are wrong but it’s worrying stuff

PLAY | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth [92h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S2, HiJack S1, The Apprentice S18
RACE | Westonbirt Half (March), Chew Valley 10k (June), GNR (Sept), Cardiff Half (Oct)

Living just on the edge of the Leicester lockdown area and I can hear two huge, separate house parties going on nearby. It might just be a coincidence but I can only assume people are "celebrating" the announced easing of the local lockdown restrictions. I mean, they're completely wrong about it if that is the case but, either way, it's a worrying thing to witness and their gatherings are still completely against the guidance.

I can really see winter becoming a nightmare situation, worse than the first wave.

Nope still selling. Essentially they can take them off & eat, no ones forcing them to keep masks on inside. Same as a train, you can board a train & take a coffee on or get food from the food cart. I think LNER are doing trolley orders next week via an app too. Problem is it’s just completely unenforceable in a screen, even with reduced capacity someone would have to sit in, watch everyone & keep telling people to put them on.

On one hand I understand it on the other I think it’s completely redundant for the very fact people buy food & drink in the cinema. As that’s the profit/income for every cinema it just seems bonkers on the other hand.

What’s frustrating is for weeks the cinema groups were discussing with the government guidelines and such & the government kept saying masks weren’t needed, weren’t even needed in the foyer. And then on the day the larger chains began opening up, he drops it in during a morning briefing.

Anything that stops people eating in cinemas is fine by me. Ban popcorn all together while you're at it.

All the food outlets at Glasgow Central are closed so people can't eat/drink on trains. They were the other day anyway.
