Ad7's grumpiness is a force of nature and we shouldn't question it ( ;) ) but I agree with Winckle above - compared to the huge negative impact social media could and often does have, positive "YAY VACCINE :needle: :flexing-arm: " messages are frankly great. Doesn't matter if they're cringe if they help make it clear that the vaccine is a good thing to the kind of person who is also on e.g. Facebook reading that kind of update.

Anti vaxxers are just absolutely brain dead. It's the only way I can explain it. Check this woman out:

There is no way you can convince someone like that. There is an anti vaxxer where I work, and he is convinced it has microchips in the vaccines. I told him A. Bill Gates has no interest in tracking him and B. If they wanted to track him they already have the infrastructure through his mobile phone and all the CCTV that's currently around.

But you just can't convince them. Whilst religion is on the decline, its being replaced by equally idiotic ideology.

The trick is to next level them. Always escalate with conspiracy theorists. e.g.

"The vaccine contains a microchip"
"No, the needle actually removes the microchip, but it has to be kept quiet"

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It might sound heartless but I just don't care if someone in the vulnerable age ranges who refuses to get the vaccine is hospitalised with Covid at this point. The fact we're slowing down lifting lockdown because of how the new variant threatens the unvaccinated boils my piss.

We've only got 59 people in hospital with covid now in all of the republic.

These Vaccines are great.

I'm talking about people in vulnerable age ranges who choose not to take it and have no intention of doing so now.

As much as I might disagree with them, I'm very happy to sit back and watch the libertarian arm of the Conservative-voting cohort turn against them. Anything that shakes the foundations of such an apparently staunch alliance is fine by me!

Cases, deaths and hospitalisations all trending upwards now! :toot:

The latter two are only marginal and it remains to be seen whether it's real change or just minor fluctuations in low numbers

There is zero chance of them announcing anything surprising on Monday. Whatever they're considering will have been heavily leaked before them to decide whether the public will agree.

I’m incredibly pessimistic about the government doing the right thing - but I’m hopeful you’re right.

There’s been so much trailed in the media for there not to be a delay now surely...

All the noises in the press are about a delay, I've seen virtually no reporting on how life will be different after the 21st so its definitely getting delayed.

They've screwed the pooch again over this. Without the delta variant then we'd have almost certainly been opening back up. But Johnson didn't want to annoy Modi and so India didn't go on the red list when it should. And now here we are. But no-one in the press is going to challenge the PM on this.

Got my 2nd dose this morning and there was quite a queue. Has to be a good sign that it was busy, lady on the door was saying that this relatively small medical centre was expecting to do 1,000 jabs today.

What are we expecting tomorrow? Just a delay in opening or some slightly stricter measures again?
