What are the main restrictions of Plan B other than WFH order and mandatory mask wearing?

It wasn't even WFH was it? I thought it was just masks

Edit - Oh no it's masks, passports and WFH

We've done brilliantly to keep the deaths low....

...but 100 people are still dying every day.

Oh.

Watching the update from Javid and it's just a case of the government doing the bare minimum yet again whilst the numbers all point to something more urgent.

"Take the vaccine if you haven't already and take the booster when it's offered to you."
"If you know someone who hasn't had the vaccine, give them a nudge to get it and do their bit."
"Think about wearing a mask indoors and opening a window if you have people round your house to stop the spread."

They clearly don't have a plan. Where are the model calculations for what will be expected to happen under current circumstances? We need to know what is predicted otherwise they can't be held to account. I don't understand the need for the emergency powers to stay in place if they can't tell us what scenario would call for them to be used.

There is a complete lack of leadership. Should we need to bring in restrictions at some point, it is going to cause even more resentment than last time as the current message is that things are back to normal.

What we needed from the opposition was a request for a clear plan out of the pandemic now or withholding of support. You can't keep giving the government emergency powers if you don't know how or why they would use them.

Note, I'm not saying we shouldn't have a lockdown or increase restrictions. What I'm saying is we need to know exactly the criteria for triggering it. We have nothing from the government.

I can't imagine a world without dipping in and out of Covid restrictions anymore and that's fairly depressing.

As a country our policy is essentially attempting to move out of the pandemic socially. In other words, the virus is out there but we have learned to live with it like all others. This winter will be a real test on that policy and you'd assume it will have to be changed very soon, but the silver lining is that immunity is increasing and the link to deaths is being continually weakened. It's highly likely that restrictions required and mortality rates will continue to fall, although adjusted for seasonality.

Having said that, it is beyond frustrating to see this government being slow to act once more. It is obvious to practically everyone that the current restrictions are not going to be sufficient in the coming months. If we do not see action fast, Plan B will be less likely to be sufficient increasing the risk of deaths and further restrictions. Just get on with announcing it already.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

The current spike seems (according to BBC Points West anyways) largely caused by the massive cock up with the PCR tests, which meant folks who should have been isolating were given negative results and so went out to spread the virus far and wide.

That's why this area now has the highest covid rates in the country (Bath which is just 15 miles from here has a rate of over 900 per 100k, and is the highest in england).

The whole thing should be an absolute national scandal at this point, the ridiculously appalling way everything has been handled for 18 months should be toppling this government, leading to extensive reviews and stringent mechanisms.put in place to ensure such a colossal failure of public health management never happens again.

Instead we'll get strawberry float all accountability and another 5+ years of Tory gooseberry fools ruling us
