I actually agree with this. Shock people. They need it.

Except they won't because that would totally expose the fundamental flaws of the government. The only point where the majority would take against the Tories is people dying in hospital corridors.

I don't know what hellscape some of you live in, I went to pick up a click and collect order this evening and the streets are pretty empty, and the supermarket car park had 6 cars in, 3 of which were picking up online orders.

Honestly, although there are the usual facebook nutters, the mood is very subdued amongst most people I know, and the rules are largely being stuck to.

Around here, everything (and everyone) is quiet, grey, and miserable.

Though to be fair, Warminster is often like that in January anyways.

I'm a "key worker" in IT. I work remotely from my office in that I'm a field engineer and the traffic is still horrendous. The first lockdown was the only time I felt this gooseberry fool was ever being taken seriously and I felt safe. All installs got cancelled first lockdown, only non trading situations to be dealt with. Now it's business as usual. No offence but you're deluded. I went into Sainsburys today at 4pm. 4pm on a Wednesday and it was strawberry floating heaving with people that are not distancing.

In the first lockdown I know 4 people including my wife that tested positive, this time round I know 20 plus, and I know my first person that died from it. I blame Boris for being so wishy washy about doing something in the first place, but I also blame the public for not actually listening when he did. Basically we're a country of banana splits.

Government car use figures suggest there is approx 50% more traffic on the roads during the current lockdown than was during Lockdown 1 (car use dropped to between 20 and 30% during March/April and is around 50% now).

by That's not a growth
Wouldn't that be 100% more? (With 50% being double of 25%)

At some points yes but it does vary quite considerably (4th Jan for example was 60% of usual traffic whereas 11th was down around 45%). Maybe it would have been better to have said at least 50% more.

I'm not saying this lockdown is being adhered to as much as the first one, just that around me at least, there's been huge difference between now and the end of last year.

Part of that perception comes from living next to a secondary school which is thankfully now quiet.

Also I'm deluded

The rules had been due to come into force on Friday, but the government said people needed time "to prepare".

Which means rich people haven't had time to sort their flights out.

My parents have gone to their local Co-op every single day since first lockdown and, now that four cases have been linked to the shop, they're acting panicked and afraid.

Like, what did you think was going to happen?

Proper "horses have already bolted" moment :|

Anecdote #3541 - my local Tesco was ridiculous at about 5pm last night. Good news - the click and collect was now actually busy again (that originally tailed off dramatically in July). Bad news - all the panic buying! A couple parked next to me, blatantly only those 2 in their household as they were at that ‘kids have moved out’ age...all the stuff they had ordered was a joke. Must have had a 48-roll pack of bog roll, for starters.

Just went into Tesco and the they've brought back the 1 person per household routine, which means loads of folks swearing and having a go at the staff at the doors and people waiting in the car for 5 minuets then going in after their partners.

Sounds like they're making a real song and dance about it.

Another day, another "issue with processing the deaths data" :fp:

To be fair I've found it pretty hard processing the deaths data recently.
