This is what really strawberry floats me off when someone does something bad and you get calls of "HE SHOULD RESIGN!!!!".

Resignation for these people means nothing. For you or I, it's being unemployed and trying to find another job, with the spectre of why you had to leave hanging over you. Hancock bangs his secretary up the arse while telling us we shouldn't be in the same county as someone else, and he's just waltzed in to another job.

To be fair he was sacked/resigned for his affair not his extreme incompetence.

Got my flu vax today. Hopefully I'm pretty covered now for the winter. Apparently I'm able to get a Covid booster too at some point because of my wife's condition. I believe the lady who jabbed me said that they are going to be opening up boosters to be done in places like Boots. I'm surprised we never got round to opening up the main vaccine to pharmacies that do the winter flu programme.

We asked the woman who did our flu jabs in boots why they didn t do that, and apparently the entire place needs to be dedicated to covid if that's to be done, so you couldn't have customers mixing with covid jabbers.

I don't see why that would be an issue though. We got our son a chicken pox vaccine at a local pharmacy which also did flu jab.

I guess there are concerns about capacity, but it definitely sounded like the booster programme would be done in pharmacies from what the pharmacist was telling me.

We're at the point now where any decrease in daily cases, hospitalisations, and deaths is treated as the pandemic finally coming to an end while the subsequent rise in numbers a few days or weeks later is effectively ignored.

I do wonder though whether the case numbers are being largely inflated by outbreaks in schools, that does seem to be the case in my area at least.

Inflated in what sense? They still create a point of infection within their families and within the wider community. The number of new cases in the UK is absolutely dwarfing those in other countries where children are also back in classrooms.

Yes the numbers will be inflated by an increase in cases, that's how it works

Yes a lot of the recent cases are from kids getting it in school, but that is also showing a clear knock on effect to the wider community - more teachers and parents are getting it as well and that then increases the risk of it spreading even further. All of this at a time of waning immunity in the most vulnerable groups who haven't had the chance to get boosted yet. It's a bad situation.

Oh and we're seeing more mutation in the Delta variant as well, so that's fun!

Our numbers have spiked again so next weeks planned re-opening of night clubs and the end of most of the remaining protections might be post-poned. You still need a vaccination 'passport' to dine/drink indoors over here still and while everything's opened, we still have to wear a mask when shopping or travelling on public transport.

Pretty sure the masks stuff will stay for at least several more months even though we have surpassed even the UK now in vaccinated numbers. It doesn't have any real impact on my life and the economy has bounced back so masks in certain areas are fine by me.
