I'd predict the second peak isn't as steep a curve as the first due to most people being more aware and taking some precautions, and more working from home.

But the R number could stay above 1 this time. It barely got below 1 outside of London even with our lockdown at its strictest (which wasn't very strict). And I doubt they will repeat the current lockdown and do anything like the furlough scheme again. Even if deaths keep rising they will be slow to act and try to PR their way out of it.

Here we go, definitely a big party/gathering going on nearby with raucous celebration.

It's clear from their press conferences, this is all about not overwhelming the NHS and prevent disastrous pictures of the suffering. They don't give a damn about the actual number of people that die as a statistic doesn't mean anything to the majority that will be uneffected.

It was strict enough, i've found the whole thing hell as it is.

I will say, the full lockdown we had was probably the right measure. It just came too late and was relaxed too early. I don't think they needed to enforce it any more than they did, or have stricter conditions, as the overwhelming vast majority abided by the rules and the situation measurably improved (does not include Cummings).

The issues surrounding it (enforced too late, relaxed too early) are the major catastrophic errors made by the government.

Really? We could go to the supermarket, go out for an hours exercise every day and drive to Durham to look at bluebells in the woods.

Yeah I would pretty much agree. We were a week too late implementing it and probably relaxed two weeks too early. A key thing we should have done was shut down flights, particularly those from certain areas.

Everyone knows we're strawberry floating this up but there's literally nothing we can do about it.

You can tell that the lockdown itself was the only area where they went with the scientific advice. Leaving it so late to implement it, and the way they are really mishandling the relaxing is the pure politics part too. You can tell by just how uncomfortable the scientists have seemed at the press conferences. It's a bit weird how none of the media seem to be asking them if they agree these are the right measures.

It’s a lost cause. Just finished my shift. It’s completely unenforceable now, large groups everywhere. Can’t do anything about it.

It's really quite incredible how quickly, and how far, Britain's international standing has fallen.

Absolutely. Was in the supermarket earlier and no-one even trying to social distance anymore.

Having a unique eye on the UK from Ireland shows me lots of things. The biggest difference between the UK and us has been clarity. Very concise and simple rules have lead to a simple understanding. We do pay more (way more) at mo to the unemployed but, as I said the advice had been clear and concise. Massive advertising campaigns and Garda check points reinforces this so it created this environment were people who didn’t obey were looked down upon, made socially unacceptable. We made non conformers feel like drunk drivers, Pariahs. Per capita we are eons behind the UK and we are still opening slower than you.
