No chance this government will be seen to be taking a step back. Unless this new phase creates apocalyptic-level scenes in hospitals we are loosening lockdown all the way to nothing from here.

Feel for you mate - went to pick up my birthday meal at an Indian restaurant on the coast, and what I saw was breathtaking in how negligent people are. There were 2 bars with their large windows open as serving hatches dishing out pints, hundreds of people milling about, litter everywhere...apparently there was a huge drunken brawl on the beach involving a couple dozen young’uns about half an hour after I was there.
Someone in here recently alluded to it and they were bang on - as long as the ICU’s don’t get overrun, the Tories will not give a flying toss about how many people die.

I think we can all take comfort though, in the fact that despite things generally being awful here, at least we're not the USA.

And it's not even as though Ireland are doing magnificently, most Central/Eastern European countries have responded significantly better.

Yeah in deaths per million, Ireland is doing worse than the USA.

Lots of people posting on social media that the whole thing is a hoax and coroners are falsifying death certificates to inflate the C19 figures. Everyone of them seems to be a Brexit supporter. :fp:

I don't know who that is?
I have asked these people for sources and above all, the supposed motivation for such a conspiracy, but sadly I've had no response, apart from insults.

I went to Seaham yesterday evening for a walk along the beach. The green (where the tommmy statue is) was rammed with people in groups from 4 -15. Just loads of younger folk sitting and drinking. Not seen it that busy before. A few chip shops were open but most people were going to Asda for drink.

I think we will be back to 100% normal life in a month or two and just the public don't seem to mind a few hundred people dying a day as long as it's not them.

Wish my image sig would work

Polling suggests a majority of the public would have preferred the lockdown to go on longer.

Unfortunately, if the government heavily implies "eh, things are pretty much getting back to normal...", lots of people will simply breathe a sigh of relief and head to the beach. It's annoying, but it's not really their fault, you have to blame the government.

So just got phoned by St George's Hospital and I've been asked to go in on Monday to start the Oxford University vaccine trial process with the actual vaccination (or the Meningitis control vaccine) taking place the week after. :D

Science. :datass:
