I really hope I don't get put in the Meningitis control group!

I'd be half tempted to ride around on the tube all day once the vaccine antibodies have built up which I think is about 4 weeks after the vaccine. Just to speed up the results process. Community transmission in London seems to have gone down rapidly and in the UK overall so my main concern is the data is inconclusive!

I think the problem of so many people being out and about, especially on the coast, is that in normal circumstances a decent number of people would either be on holiday abroad, or would have something booked in the future. Combine that with the fantastic weather and you end up with crowds of people everywhere. There are beaches and walks near me that are normally quiet but are now very busy.

A fair few people are selfish, moronic pieces of gooseberry fool though so nothing is ever going to be perfect. All you have to do is not be a dickhead and follow the rules for say 6-9 months and it'll hopefully be over. Nah, too difficult.

You'd probably be alright but remember that vaccines only make you less likely to get Covid. You need 90%+ of the population to be vaccinated before it's considered fully safe.

Anyway hope it goes well.

I think we will be back to 100% normal life in a month or two and just the public don't seem to mind a few hundred people dying a day as long as it's not them.

Godzilla, you're getting dangerously close to me! I'm scared!

Science. :datass:

Why did you sign up for it out of curiosity? You not worried about side effects at this early stage?

I signed up partly to help my fellow man and partly for my own self interest.

This vaccine has been in development for 5 years and already passed safety trials where they used the exact same vaccine with a Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) spike rather than COVID spike.

They re-did safety trials in a phase 1/2 trial which is almost complete with 1110 participants.

The monkeys that got the vaccine didn't develop pneumonia even after being given absurdly high levels of the virus.

Everything I've read about it leads me to think it's perfectly safe whilst also being effective although perhaps not "perfect" as it might be possible to get sick but just not end-up-in-hospital sick which is more than good enough to reopen the gyms, barbers and pubs.

Good luck. Thanks for taking one for the team.

I half would like to do it but I wouldn’t want to take the risk of getting the control vaccine instead. I would happily take the risk of being given the trial vaccine from what I’ve read about it.

Anecdotally, today is the busist I've seen it since mid march. I went for a cycle about 0945-1130, with part of my route being around a large reservoir that has a lot of open space/picnic areas around it. So many cars parked on the roads, let alone how many might have been in the car park I couldn't see. Quite a few of family's with blankets and picnic stuff. Loads more cyclists than usual. Loads more traffic in general, even more than Wednesday morning during committing time.

Around my area it seems people are still being mostly sensible which is good.

I'm hearing from people really excited to send there kids back, people excited to return to work and basically saying it's all over now and it was always just over hyped.... Literally people who weeks ago were crying into there blankets that they could die are now saying well no one I know died so it was never really a big thing... It just makes me shake my head and worry.

A one-man barbecue sounds like a euphemism for what Gove's been up to on Twitter.

Neighbours having family around for BBQ and when I drove along the Sunderland seafront today it was very busy. Chip shops open and long lines outside. Feels like a different atmosphere than last week, everyone happy and back to normal.
