Yep, we crossed that a line a long time ago

There are worse countries of course but we are (and have always been) a nasty little twat of a country.

And did those feet in ancient time,
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy lamb of god
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

Nope, Jesus wasn't even out of the boat before he was attacked by banana splits who thought he "looked a bit foreign".

We are very far from a 'strawberry floating disgrace of a country'.

How is a government voting against the best interests of its healthcare system and its employees that have worked tirelessly to keep it from collapse during a pandemic not disgraceful?

Really interested to understand why that's all above board and genuinely swell.

Is there seriously no room for nuance on the internet anymore?

We're apparently either:
- A strawberry floating disgrace of a country
- All above board and genuinely swell

Oh, MIGHT there be something in between? What a concept!

Instead of acting like a disapproving father, why not enlighten us as to what the in between is?

I feel like when you say that “we’re pretty far from being a strawberry floating disgrace of a country” with no other comment that you’re implicitly giving the impression that you think everything is fine, or at the very least that there are no significant problems that are plaguing the country at this time, so I don’t really have much issue with the language used to retort to that.

I think Brazil got lucky in that the temperatures there didn't enable the spread as much as other countries.

Either way the UK (England) is in the top 3 no matter how nuanced we are

When it comes to Covid we're truly terrible.

Yep we're definitely a terrible disgrace where this situation is concerned. Not only are we the worst hit country on Europe by excess deaths which is awful on its own, when you reset your thinking away from "how do we compare against how others have done?" (badly) and instead ask the question "how do we compare against where we could have been?" then the situation is even worse. We are the worst affected country in the EU when we had the potential benefit of a massive head start compared to most of mainland Europe! Not only should we not have come out of this with the worst outcome, we should have easily had one of the best if we had just acted faster and more effectively. Our lockdown was late and looser than pretty much everyone else's and it's a disgrace that we didn't get this right given the warning we had

2.5million infections suggest not.

Brazil and the USA are following pretty similar trajectories iirc. They are both currently seeing large day-on-day increases in deaths.

The UK is still worse than both in terms of death per million, though if we don't get a second wave then they'll pass us soon probably.

The UK is currently the only country in the top 3 for both deaths total and deaths per million, fwiw. We shouldn't minimise how hard we were hit. The government's hands are soaked in blood.

I think only San Marino and Belgium are worse than us globally in terms of deaths per million

Yeah, it's shocking how bad the UK's stats are. The scale of needless death here genuinely really upsets me to think about. We did worse than Italy and they were kind of caught by surprise - we knew it was coming.
