"Send your kids to school, or else" is not a reasonable approach in the slightest.

Unless there is very hard pressure from rebel Tories and the opposition, I actually think they really would force that through.

Rebecca Long Bailey was shadow for education and was backing the teachers unions argument that it wasn't safe to go back. That didn't marry up with Labours backing to get schools back ASAP and they appeared to have removed her from the press junkets the past few weeks and have since fired her. So I don't think we should be expecting any opposition to the latest plans.

"is as important than ever"? :dread:

I know it's a minor thing in the light of all the death but do they not have anyone proof reading this gooseberry fool?

You can almost see the process that went into that typo as well - it clearly read "more important than ever" at one point and then someone hastily changed it in case it implied that it wasn't important before! :fp:

I still can't believe people need to be told to wash their hands.

Don't forget to sing a special song while you're washing them so you know how long to wash them for, rather than, y'know, count to 20.

I welcome the compulsory face masks rule on public transport in NI.

Edit - on the bus and these old pricks are sitting on the outside seats talking to each other. Wankers.

If the rate these translate into deaths starts to do the same then they are going to be even more monumentally strawberry floated than they already are. :dread:

I'm surprised we haven't seen a similar trend.

I'm pretty sure we're about to in a few weeks. America started opening up first.

There's little reason to think that. The UK is at a stage more similar to other European countries, most of which have opened up without any major spike yet reoccurring.

More fun with the song though. And did you both honestly wash your hands for 20 secs previously?

Leicester mayor basically throwing his toys out of his pram over being recommended to keep the city under current conditions for another two weeks. Could be interesting to see how the government respond if he refuses to follow their advice.

On the train, there's regular announcements saying everyone should use the window seat only in order to maintain distancing, i suspect the same will apply when coach services resume too (it's looking now that some will restart from August 1st).

Yeah, i think (or at least i hope) we'll be like the other european countries, in that there will be localised clusters, but no major spike.

The US situation is very different and generally more complicated, and so we can't really compare things accurately.

Announce a local lockdown.

Have to announce no more local lockdowns as ineffective.

Interesting. It won’t be long before we have this elsewhere across the country.

There was a car meet yesterday in Northampton. At least 300 cars, if not more, filled the car parks on a leisure complex. Must have been at least 500 people there, mingling with each other. There was even an ice cream and burger van. Ridiculous. Police lacked the resources to stop it and had to allow it to happen and just monitor it.

I know it's awful but I'm feeling so much vindication regarding my work. I hope my directors are strawberry floating choking on this news.

This is the Tories we are talking about. They are on their own for two weeks.
