Kind of.

Johnson wants to "Build Build Build" to create jobs and kickstart the economy.

It's not an awful plan on paper but it'll either amount to nothing or be a complete strawberry float up because this government is a corrupt bunch of strawberry floating useless twats.

Well, like, to be less glib, I hope you do get out of it but with the current cabinet I also can't see it happening.

Despite the awful Tory government you guys have, the actual cabinet is made up of 'leavers' and not necessarily the best people for their jobs.

Surely for this to be worth while this has to be jobs in computing, data and such. But will probably be apprenticeships in retail or something lame

Funnily enough I’m reading a biography of FDR’s press secretary Steve Early - the first modern US press secretary and a forerunner of, erm, Sarah Sanders. He did an incredible job helping FDR sell the New Deal to the American people.

I need to see that because that is a level of self delusion which is so breathtaking that it’s hard to believe he was able to utter it without his mind collapsing like a dying star the millisecond it sparked to life in the soggy walnut of a brain he has inside his stupid strawberry floating head.

FDR for strawberry float sake.
strawberry floating FDR.

Staggering.

I mean I’ve seen them both described as fascist so I suppose there’s that?

Sounds like an interesting book, is it an enjoyable read?

Finished Bernays's Crystalising Public Opinion the other day, thought it was a very interesting look at early marketing techniques/PR.

I haven’t read that actually, got a link? (Quick edit - never mind, it’s going cheap on Amazon). I always took my march on propaganda theory from Ellul, the French writer, but Bernays is an author I really should be more familiar with.

Yeah, it’s really good. Less about the marketing techniques themselves and more of a look at how Early brought the presidency into modern times in the 1930s - I’d recommend it if you’re interested in either propaganda/marketing or US history.

This government isn't capable of investing properly. They won't identify projects with long-term positive impact in communities. They won't expand the public sector to manage and implement those projects effectively. They won't collaborate with the right people in the private sector where needs be. The state won't own anything it funds.

I saw part of their plan is building a load of new prisons. So that'll be a contract for a few construction companies with friends in high places, and it'll all end up privately owned, and it'll ultimately do nothing for communities and will actually incentivise part of what's going wrong in our society (a punitive justice system that doesn't effectively help people get out of the reasons they committed a crime).

Everything Johnson invests in will be PR, headline pandering for the boomer vote, and cash transfer to their mates. No actual long-term economic or social vision for the country. If they did have a vision for building up the country they wouldn't be on course for a hard Brexit would they?

Even if we do see lots of building projects, it'll all be a front to make Tory donors even more wealthy. We've seen with Jenrick just how this'll go.

Doesn't appear to be many major films to get people through the doors to begin with.

Drive-ins would have been ideal, but they've never taken off here (unsurprisingly).

Well to be fair, it's not exactly easy to see a movie when you need to have the windscreen wipers going the whole time.

I would rather watch a drive-in movie with the associated worse audio and picture quality than sit in a cinema with the kind of scum who think acceptable to use their mobiles.

Plenty of stuff going round on our local Spotted pages now with people arranging coaches to travel to other towns this weekend to get pissed. I'm in Leicester. Not surprising there are idiots acting this way but I guess we'll see what happens at the weekend and whether anything can actually be enforced to stop movement.

Report them. It's the only way this gooseberry fool is ever going to stop.

Perhaps as part of the Brexit arguement of ending free movement we should close the borders to every county in England? At the very least it would wind up Sun readers no end.

You say that but I’ve just been reading the comments on Facebook for an article in my local paper about planned residential developments. There were loads of comments saying the homes and flats should go to locally born residents and not those from out of town  I sometimes wonder how deep the outsider attitude goes.

Oh I can see why you felt vindicated with your work situation now, I did assume you were from there, but wasn't sure. Well done :datass:
