Just over a month ago they were in single figures, as low as 5 a day. Yesterday that figure was 150. That's a 3000% increase in barely over a month!
How does that compare to a normal winter season? I'm struggling to find stats on it. I have read that during the peak of winter season, there can be around 1000 deaths a day from respiratory illness.
I'm unsure of what route is best to take. I'm uncomfortable with local lockdowns as it's easier for the govt to limit financial support. I'd prefer a national system where everyone has some kind of protection like Lockdown 1. But even then millions of self employed were just cut adrift.
But if you look at the south west, generally we are on a reasonable position here so there isn't the trigger for a lockdown yet. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt to the current strategy, but I just can't give any benefit of doubt to a govt that are just so misleading on every level.
I'd argue the lack of integrity from this government is directly responsible for a lot of the conspiracy theories and lack of will to comply with rules from a large section of the public.
