We were still working from home at that point, only from 19th July we have been allowed to go back so the relief should still be in effect for then shouldn’t it? Or at least, if I speak to them they should adjust it back again?

Without seeing what you've been sent, I don't know. And you probably shouldn't share that info with a stranger on the internet anyway.

But my guess would be that this relates to the period up until April 21, since tax notifications usually come out after their year end when they've had the chance to compare what they think you should have paid to what you've actually paid, and then send out notifications about changes to your tax code.

Maybe bounce it to your HR team first of all, since it's more than just you affected to see what they advise.

Otherwise, presumably there's a number you can contact on the letter, if you think they've made a mistake?

I tried contacting them but it’s busy so will give it a go tomorrow. I know it’s happened to a few others in my work place as well and we all applied for that WFH tax relief last year so it must be something to do with that

Ah, OK.

This is typically badly worded. But yes, this seems to be for the period up to April 21 rather than after that.

And what it is saying is that they think you underpaid by £21, not by £143.

The £143 is a bit of a red herring; you don't owe them that. They are just saying, next year, we're going to tax a bit more, at a bit less than £2 a month, to get the £21 back.

And the way they're going to do that is to reduce your tax free allowance - I don't think it's saying you owe them that.

Anyhow, I still don't know why that has happened. It does seem a coincidence that lots of you applied for the same relief and all got the same letter, so ask the question by all means.

You have to claim again for this year. Once that’s done, they’ll readjust, including anything you’ve now overpaid as a result.

Ahh ok, so basically I need to let them know I was still working from home from April this year up until now and they should sort my tax code back to what it should be then credit me back what extra they took?

Covid cases back under 40k. Hopefully they continue on a downward trend. Although cases for those between 20 and 29 yrs old are at a record high.

That's how it should work.

NB my HMRC knowledge is out of date about that charge relating to April 21.

I forgot they introduced a new system which is supposed to update things in real time, so listen to Rinks, and hopefully that should sort it.

Have to see what the next few days are like before we can be too excited, 7 day average is still trending upward at the moment.

Feels like a blip before an inevitable further rise but maybe that's just me being pessimistic

Seems too early for school holidays to be the cause of the drop unless they were practically all shut with so many kids having to isolate.

Maybe the Euros Final impact is calming down? Seems too good to be true that the virus is finally struggling against the wall of double jabbed immunity built up.

The nightclubs being reopened will probably start to come through by next weekend as it's the first weekend that they'll have been opened. Don't even think schools being off will stop that from causing a huge spike!

They ran out of tests on Monday so maybe it’s because less people have been tested

From what I gather in Scotland cases started to drop there when school summer holidays started, and in Scotland they start earlier than in England. Hopefully the fact that schools are now closed will bring case numbers down given that I imagine schools are now one of the main transmission routes.

Went to the metro centre after work and was pleasantly surprised to see the majority of people wearing masks. Same in Lidl.

Also saw my first bit of Covid graffiti today in Spennymoor. I was driving so didn't get a proper look but I saw "Covid, Boris and what looked like a wonky swastika" it was all covered up later the same day so that's something.

After feeling extra tired and iffy yesterday thanks to Pfizer 2: Pfize Harder, today i'm not too bad.

That said, i think i had worse side effects after the first one, which is surprising as i'd been told to expect the second to be worse.

Still early days, but hoping for the best this time around now.

I definitely feel a lot more out of it than the first Pfizer jab, don’t feel awful or anything but definitely feel like I could have a nap and have a bit of a sore arm and just feel a bit under the weather really. Fingers crossed this is as bad as it gets.
