Ah! It'll be cool to see how Hyper Sentinel has been progressing!

So folk will be able to try the game from Wednesday, 'Quake?

First of all, I must apologise for not participating in the forum much over the last few months, I just haven't had time to play games to be honest. I do lurk and do enjoy reading everything tho'.

So, I won't give away too much right now, but the demo will be available for all on Wednesday.

I you have a reasonably decent PC the game will run in 4K at 60fps, it's running at that on my MacBook Pro.

The PC, Mac (and console) game is not a straight port of the iOS game from before. It has been totally re-written from the ground up with these platforms in mind.

It would be ace if a GRcadian could top the global ranking in the demo ... might be a special prize for that ;)

Are you planning to launch Hyper Sentinel for all formats at the same time, Starquake? I guess that the iOS version is complete now?

The iOS version is feature complete, however it is likely that for launch we will use the new code for that also, to allow uniformity of versions and a single code base.

The plan is all formats at launch. With the possible exception of one new platform which I think still needs approval due to timing.

Thankfully I don't get involved with all that stuff other than needing code ready for certain timings such as pegi ratings. I understand a lot more of what goes on now though!!

Sounds intriguing...

A new platform? Excitement rising!

It sounds like the development of the game has been a terrific journey for you, Starquake. Working in partnership with the Hewson team must be really good experience; I'm hoping that you guys see some reward for your efforts.

Thanks Jawa. I hope people get some enjoyment out of the little demo - that's all that matters in reality.

Yeah, I've learnt a tonne along the way. The biggest thing is how games are built through layers and layers of polish on top of each other, and that small seemingly inconsequential little things can transform the feeling of a game to the player.

It's very hard work making a game, but hopefully it will come good in the end :D

Was hoping we were finally getting a console release of Richard Whiteley's Countdown VR HD.

:(

2/10 thread does not deliver.

Great idea for my next game though!

Actually, thinking about it probably won't bother as it sounds a bit boring to write.

In the meantime try the PC demo of Hyper Sentinel for free tomorrow!!

I'm intrigued, Starquake! Is this new version a different approach to the iOS original? As a free demo, hopefully quite a few GRcadian PC gamers will be keen to take a look at this :toot: .

Hi Jawa!
The engine for iOS game was a proprietary Apple one. That means that in order for the game to be able to be released across all platforms including console, we had to "port" the game to the Unity engine. This is why we needed 30k for the first kickstarter; because it is a lot of hard work to do that.

Since the last kickstarter failed, we have had an absolute ton of people asking us to keep going, we've also taken the Apple TV game on a good number of public expos and had terrific feedback from all ages.

So, instead of porting the game exactly as was, I have spent the last 5 months re-writing the game from scratch using the Unity engine, and with PC and Console being the main goals. I've now been able to add extra effects, lighting etc because of this change. So all the really hard lifting work is now done and I've put toegether the demo so that we can have another go at Kickstarter to get back some funds and be able to pay for the things required for console release.

We've got a more focussed campaign this time and are asking for £15K (instead of 30k) because I've basically already done a lot of the work in my spare time. There is a terrific exclusive available in the campaign too - which retro collectors should love.

But, yeah, now we have the demo on PC we will hopefully get more people playing and backing the campaign this time. I think it's a good game, people tell me they really enjoy it. But let's see what happens. I'm confident we can do it.

Nice work, 'Quake - I'm not overly familiar with Kickstarter projects but, based upon my experience of Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee one, it's important to be clear on what is (and isn't!) being produced and it sounds like you and Team Huey are well on top of that :toot: .

I've got the Kickstarter email this morning that shares details about the new project launching at 7am (UK) tomorrow and it mentions what the "early bird" exclusive is... I won't say what it is here without your blessing but I'm sure that "older" gamers will like it :-).

I like the buzz of positivity... I hope it goes really well, dude!

It's okay to let people know Jawa. It's really lovely materials and quality too. Don't know if anyone remembers the magazine diary (for Zzap?) that a certain Mr Braybrook did for Paradroid - there will be a similar dev diary for Hyper Sentinel too, which is quite fun to do.

Great stuff, dude - okay, GRcadians, here is the full info :) :

Huey Team, in a message to original Kickstarter backers, wrote:Hello,

You gave us your feedback, we listened, and for the last 6 months we've been working hard to keep the Hyper Sentinel dream alive. Tomorrow, at 7am GMT, a new Kickstarter campaign goes live and it now includes:

> FREE demo for PC and Mac - try before you back!
> Steam, PS4, Xbox One, Android & iOS all confirmed at launch if funding is successful
> Exclusive Limited Edition USB Cassette reward

Over the last six months, the decision to commit spare time to keeping Hyper Sentinel going has been made much easier by your belief and your support, for which we are extremely grateful. Now, we need your help once again to ensure Hyper Sentinel becomes a reality.

Day 1 - The Most Important Day!
Day one of any Kickstarter campaign is usually the most important day. If all of you, the ORIGINAL Hyper Sentinel believers, jump in straight away then our chances of Kickstarter success will sky-rocket! Of course, if you need a little extra motivation, then we've got you covered...

Early Bird Rewards!
If you are salivating over the Hyper Sentinel USB Cassette, then set your alarm for 07:00 GMT tomorrow, Wednesday 15th February and make sure you don't miss out on our fantastic Early Bird Rewards.

LET'S DO THIS!

:)

I love how that cassette is like an old Hewson tape box from the 80s :toot: .

Oh, wow, that sounds ace - I do remember reading Andrew Braybrook's excellent updates in Zzap! 64... that is my all-time favourite gaming mag :D .
