Reviewing well:

A sequel with smarts and style, Crash Bandicoot 4 proves there's still life in the old Bandicoot yet. It's about time indeed.

4.5/5

https://www.gamesradar.com/crash-bandicoot-4-review/

At its core, Crash 4 remains rooted to the old way of doing things, but that’s not a bad thing. The visuals are cleaner now and Crash has a few new gimmicks, but if you squint, Crash 4 looks like the same old platformer you’ve always loved.

8.5/10

https://www.gameinformer.com/index.php/ ... -precision

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is both respectful of the series that came before it while also giving it the modern update it needed with new gameplay, depth of character, and a beautiful look. Toys for Bob just gets Crash. Its fresh new ideas, from big gameplay additions like new playable characters to supplementary but no less enjoyable aspects like the N. Verted mode to quality-of-life improvements like the shadow circle under Crash’s jumps, all now feel as natural to Crash as though they’d been there all along.

8/10

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a strong return for the series, and a showcase of what might have been if we got a true follow-up to Crash 3. I sincerely hope that Activision entrusts Toys for Bob (and Vicarious Visions) with the keys to the Crash kingdom from here on out. I wanna see more of the little guy.

:dread:

I want to buy it and I can get it for £42 with my £10 voucher but my main concern about transferring the save files to PS5. I'll wait until they've confirmed it.

Is there a PS5 update on the cards for this?

If it's the PS4 game running on PS5, the saves should just transfer over. If Activision has a PS5 upgrade in the pipeline however then there might indeed be problems.

There's no way I'm paying £50 for this.

Hopefully the price would have dropped by Christmas

Strange Activision haven't said about any PS5 upgrade as Series X has one, but long as it plays on PS5 and I can transfer my save, that's fine.
But £50 man, that is pretty steep.

Yeah, I might have said in that other thread that I’d pay up to £70 for a game, but I was thinking Assassin’s Creed with season pass. I’m not paying £60 for this.

EDIT: £48 on CDKeys (Xbox).

It’ll be £30 around Black Friday, they usually do promotions where they have the Crash and Spyro games on sale

That's great.

A lot of people said it's a proper sequel of the trilogy and I am looking forward to it soon.

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-10-04-crash-bandicoot-4-narrowly-beats-star-wars-squadrons-to-no-1-l-uk-boxed-charts

Activision's Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time beat EA's Star Wars Squadrons to No.1 this week, with just 1,000 boxed sales separating the two games.

The latest Crash Bandicoot title follows the successful remakes of the first three Crash games (released in 2017 as Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy) and Crash Team Racing (released in 2018 as Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled). This new game is an entirely original release, although it still pays homage to the popular original trilogy.

It's unlikely Activision expected the new game to match the success of the more nostalgic remakes, which is just as well because Crash 4's launch sales are 80% lower than that of N.Sane Trilogy. Crash has a history with PlayStation, and so it's no surprise to see that 82% of sales were on PS4 with the remainder on Xbox One. The new game was not made for Nintendo Switch (at least not yet), which has been a popular platform for Crash games with big sales for the N.Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing.

Second place belongs to Star Wars: Squadrons, which is the latest Star Wars title from Electronic Arts. In terms of boxed sales, the game hasn't performed especially strongly, with launch sales 72% lower than that of last year's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (which is a very different genre). It's worth noting that due to the COVID-19, sales of new games have been stronger in the download space over the past six months compared with physical, so it's likely that Squadron's overall launch sales will be a lot closer to Fallen Order's debut week than it appears here (digital data is not included in these charts). EA has also been proactive in selling this game as a download.

The new game sold best on PS4, with 68% of sales coming on Sony's platform and the remainder on Xbox One.

The only other new title in the UK Top 40 boxed charts is Untitled Goose Game at No.34.

Last week's No.1, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, drops to No.3 after a 23% drop in sales week-on-week. While Marvel's Avengers falls from No.2 to No.5 with a 20% drop in sales week-on-week. Last week's new Mafia titles, Definitive Edition and Trilogy, hold on in the Top Ten at No.9 and No.10 respectively, with sales down 57% and 40% week-n-week

In next week's chart, FIFA 21 will be No.1.

People are seeing the £55/60 price tag as steep. Though N sane trilogy and nitro fueled were remakes and they started at £35.

A massive drop, but without digital sales to compare it to it's difficult to gauge its true popularity. Launching at 60 when a lot of people are likely to be saving their pennies for a next gen console probably wasn't a great move though.

Also, I'm not sure how loved Crash actually is. Many people may have got their fill with the nostalgic kick from the remakes.

The pricing is so odd.

They conditioned people to buy 3 games for a discounted price and then thought it would be a good idea to ask for more money for one game.

I know it's completely new and everything but still, really really stupid decision from whoever decided the price.

Imagine someone who's never played Crash seeing both games side by side:

Trilogy for £25

Crash 4 for £50

Hmm I wonder what they'd pick

Don't surprise me the £50 price tag has honestly put people off, should've been £40 retail.

Another thing is, a lot of those trilogy sales came from more casual players who were nostalgic, those same players probably haven't even finished all 3 original games, so what incentive do they have to buy the 4th when it's £50?

Without those digital sales though it's impossible to say just how successful it has been. Back in June or July Sony said 51% of all games sold on PS4 in FY2020 were via PSN (for Apr-Jun 2020 YoY digital sales were up 154%); EA said 52%, and TakeTwo took it up to 55%. The retail landscape has changed quite a bit from when Crash Trilogy launched in 2017.

So let's say 50% of those sales are digital, that still doesn't even match the trilogy's physical sales, let alone digital.

It’s definitely sold less, but at £50-£60 a pop it’s double the price so there’s a possibility it can afford to...as long as 4 has the legs like the first trilogy to sustain sales over the next year or two and doesn’t just get completely lost amongst the next gen fanfare.

I bet it’ll be under £40 in the Thanksgiving sales and under £30 in the Christmas period. And then they’ll announce the Switch and PC versions.
