The greatest/decent/most annoying (delete as applicable) platformer is back!

Courtesy of the Taiwan ratings board:

Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.

Will be PS5 compatible per Sony's stipulation that all games produced from here on out must be, but whether there will be a specific version or not they haven't said yet.

Guessing the recent remakes did well enough to warrant a full on new game then.

Guessing they are wiping the slate clean and just using the remade trilogy, hopefully this lives up to those.

Wrath was the first non-Naughty Dog game as well so perhaps they are using that as a reason to discount it from having numbered status?

The Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity were Crash 4 and Crash 5 in Japan, but I don't like this trend of trying to name games out of history. It's a bit grubby.

This name is so dumb, I honestly thought it was a remake of the fourth game at first glance

I think we're now pretending Crash Bandicoot has been dead since 1999. After Crash Team Racing he was NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN until his TRIUMPHANT return in 2017.

I'm presuming as they've numbered it this will be very much in line with the original games and not some open world odyssey.

The thing is, while The Wrath of Cortex didn't do much new, it wasn't exactly a bad game. I mean if you liked the originals, I don't see why you would be offended by its PS2 debut. It also sold very well. I think the overall look was a bit off and Crash felt a tad floatier than he did on PS1, but apart from that it was a simple continuation of the PS1 games. What I remember most was the absolute gold standard for terrible loading times and a CD-Rom that made the PS2 sound like it was on its last legs.

It's not even like they rebooted the series and this is the fourth game in the reboot. 1/2/3 in this "new" series are remakes of the original 1/2/3 so they're splitting the series off at the fourth mainline game. It's proper Zelda timeline nonsense.

Ooo need to get this one. Sounds more interesting than the games after the original 3.

It would be funny if they actually use the time mechanic in this new one (assuming they have one) to wipe all Crash minus the original trilogy and CTR out of existence

Unlike the PS1 games, Wrath of Cortex has never been officially referred to as a numbered title, so as far as I'm concerned '4' is fair game. Who cares though, I'm just interested in how the game will turn out and that's what I'm unsure about. Toys for Bob doesn't exactly have the best output outside of the remakes so I wonder how well they'll actually do a whole game of original Crash content.

despite the naming of this it is great to see a return of the platform game from someone other than Nintendo! Now if can just have weird Sega back from the Dreamcast era :)

It was in Japan tho, so I guess it's just Japan's problem. Maybe it'll be called Crash 6 in Japan lol.

I feel like Crash kinda went the Sonic way. First 3 games are loved and memorable. Then people remember the 4th was good too - Wrath of Cortex and & Knuckles - then it's just kinda downhill from there. The Sonic Adventures were decent, as was Twin Sanity, and then they just kept making gimmicky gooseberry fool like Unleashed or Mind Over Mutant. Only difference I guess is Sonic has a bigger cult following than Crash did so Crash just died. Good to see it back tho.

Wrath of Cortex was trash. Twinsanity was better and that was bad as well.
