Amazed by the games sales performance. The rose-tinted specs are out in force.

Having never played the originals, I have to say seeing this everywhere is making me want to download them on Vita

Having recently played through the original trilogy and now having played a little of this while visiting family at the weekend I actually prefer the original versions. The controls and enemy hit boxes just don't feel quite right in this version and it has to load longer and more often than the originals did too.

The original Crash Bandicoot on PS2 had a horrible loading problem as well for some reason. And because it was on CD-Rom, it was LOUD.

Wrath of Cortex? Yeah, that too had bad load times but I never had a problem with the PS1 trilogy.

I'm both amazed and amused how a number of places on the internet (such as Gaf or Eurogamer) seem shocked and/or almost angry at the success of this game. I think they're either too young, too old, or simply never owned a PlayStation 1 and seemed oblivious to just how massive Crash Bandicoot was in the late 90s. In recent years it's become almost cool to gooseberry fool on the franchise or 'Oh, it was never that good.'

It's hard to really emphasise just how big it was. This release has probably played into that 25-35 demographic extremely well, and those same people are playing it with their kids.

Good to see Crash Bandicoot @ number 1, having a whale of a time (just finished the first & going onto the second) with these & having a laugh at those salty bitch ass comments elsewhere.

Nnnggggggghhh yeah :datass: :toot:

The Crash Bandicoot sub-reddit (who knew such a thing existed!), are making very detailed analysis into why the jumping feels a little off, especially in the first game.

Conclusions seem to be:
- They've used the same physics for all 3 games in the remaster (because why wouldn't you), but haven't considered how that translates across the different levels in each game given the originals had differences. Original Crash 1 was much more 'floaty' at times, whereas they've taken the Crash 3 style and put it to all 3 games.
- Crash and Coco's hit boxes aren't square/flat but are 'pill' shaped, which is why unless you land really sweet on some jumps you can appear to slide off as the curved nature of the hitbox will react that way with the flat surface you're landing on. Makes levels such as the Bridge levels a total nightmare because you have to be precise for the small landing area, and then more precise still for the hitbox of the character.

Thought it was interesting that fans are going to such lengths to see what is going on, though more than anything I'm just glad it's not me going insane on the first game for no reason.

I kept dying at the start of Lost City where you have to jump around the metal boxes to the left to find some of the crates. I too am glad it's not just me that thought the controls were off.

Maybe Crash 1 being d-pad only, whereas 2 and 3 took advantage of the analogue sticks, has played a part too.

I can't imagine how hard Toxic Waste will be. I was only ever able to beat that level with all boxes by jumping around a lot of the rolling/bouncing barrels and from playing Lost City I don't see that technique being easy to pull off now.

I wonder if this is something that could be patched (like the shooting 'issue' in Uncharted 3).

This was always my worry, if you were familiar with the first games you'd just know if it didn't quite feel right. At the same time, nobody played 1 with a stick (can this still be played with a d-pad?)

The remasters can be played with a d-pad however it still doesn't feel quite right.

I'd say what I played at the weekend pretty much killed what little interest I had in this. I have the originals on my PS3 and if I must play them again I'll be sticking with those versions.

If you have the Official PlayStation magazine guide book for this game that came with the mag last month it's going for £15-£20 on eBay...incredibly. Maybe international buyers.

The game itself is also going for £40-50. :fp:

... . Huh?!? It's not even that good a guide... not bad, but as simple as you'd expect as a magazine's free gift.

Seriously? Mine's going on eBay then, thanks for the tip off!

Edit: the guide, that is.

I suspect that folk will soon catch on. Only three have been sold and none of them make it clear that it's a magazine give-away. The one that sold for £19.99 has "rare hard to find" in the description :fp:  .

There's a person on eBay trying to shift the game for £84.60. :slol:

Still, if people are willing to pay these crazy prices then good luck to them. Reminds me of when I sold a copy of EMPIRE for about £150 I think it was. Meant nothing to me but people were going mental for it. Sometimes on eBay you can just luck out on the strangest things.

Why are people paying so much for the game, are they not making any more copies or are people just being impatient?
