Is Crysis really that good that it deserved all of this hyperbolic build up just for a remaster? I only ever played the first hour or so and it seemed pretty average.

You clearly never went around punching chickens in to space and using turtles as weapons.

The game is great but the talk was that it was a technical showcase game that had features that are still hard to implement now. The jungle environment is really hard to do well and Crysis goes full steam ahead and tries to do it and does a fantastic job that just looks better the more power you throw at it.
It's pretty much akin to a games publisher today releasing a game that will only look its best on an ultra high end PC for 2025. It's super ambitious for the time.

Ah, thank you for that insight. I shall have to give it a proper go.

This is a good watch about the series

Crysis, when it plays to its strengths, is absolutely one of the best FPS games out there. The trouble is that Crytek seem great at not realising what those strengths are for a good chunk of their games. :fp:

It did, and still does in may ways, look incredible as well - there is more to gaming that graphics but it is still impressive to experience those moments where a developer really goes all out to push things forward and Crysis was definitely one of those. Parts of the game still look incredible even 13 years after release.

If you could take the first half of Crysis and the first half of Crysis 2, and slam them together, you'd have the perfect game.

Crysis 2 is actually my favourite of the two if I'm honest.
Not counting warhead.

The first few areas of Crysis are fantastic. Even the aliens aren't that bad but it's hard to deny that the game doesn't get worse as it goes on.

Yep, the first jungle area is a real treat for the eyes. What I most remember is the lighting through the trees and the way those trees could be chipped away at. For the time it was pretty amazing.
I wonder if we'll ever see a game so rough on hardware again. Maybe if we had a developer starting now on a PS6 launch game and they made the game available on PC a few years in advance but that seems unlikely.

I think what a lot of people seem to forget is that even when the last 3 levels dissolves into a linear FPS and it is a downgrade to the openness of the previous levels, they were still as equal to the most popular shooter that was out there at the time - the Call of Duty games. Everyone lapped that gooseberry fool up but pulled Crysis up on it when they did it. I never understood that. However I always thought that boss fight at the end was gooseberry fool!

Not sure if its been confirmed or not yet, but apparently in an interview someone from Crytek said that this included 'Single Player Campaigns' as in plural, if that's the case I'm not sure it could be anything other than Warhead.

Shame we're not getting the other two games as well. Especially loved 2.

You can watch the trailer here, without waiting for that countdown:

There's some leaked screenshots too:
https://www.game-debate.com/news/29121/ ... nouncement

Whilst it certainly looks better than the original game by far, it's hard to tell just how much of an improvement has been made thanks to the blurry compression. There was a time where the original Crysis game was a running gag; “yeah, but can it run Crysis?” was a frequent comment brought up around PC hardware and performance, multiple computers melted at the sheer sight of the game’s box art.

Now we get to relive that experience all over again, but with a little bit less melting involved as the Crysis Remaster looks less like a complete overhaul and more like an updated console version.

If you wanted another Crysis game that was going to blow us out of the water with next-gen graphics and even more PC melting benchmarks, then unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the case.

You can check out the Crysis Remastered leaked screenshots from the Microsoft Store below:

Looks like they've mixed up the words "Re-released" and "Remastered" - it looks no different!

How embarrassing. The only people who could get Crysis to run on anything can’t get it to run on anything.

I mean they ported it to PS3. Modern consoles should cope.

The 360/PS3 versions of Crysis were HORRIFIC, well the 360 one is anyway, the pop in and resolution are seriously bad.
