Players should be able to use their Mii (face only ?) in the game. To be released on January 29 2009 in Japan.

- Play at the same time on the Wii and DS, thanks to Pollux Engine created by Square Enix.
- Players on the Wii and players on the Nintendo DS will be able to play online together.
- Different gameplay for the 2 versions (stylus or Wiimote).
- Story revolves around Charlotta and a mysterious crystal.
- You can transfer Mii characters you made to the DS version.

So the game Ring of Fates should have been? It'll be interesting to see how Wii/DS cross-platform play works.

Wow, intriguing stuff. Nice use of connectivity.

Is the game coming out on both Wii and DS, or is it just a Wii game that connects to Ring of Fates?

It's out on both Wii and DS with no mention of any connectivity to Ring of Fates.

And don't write Crystal Bearers off until after TGS, Suzz.

Might Crystal Bearers have not now been amalgamated with Echoes of Time?

Crystal Bearers was a Kingdom Hearts style Action-RPG, so I can't see much of it's gameplay blending into the more traditional CC gameplay of Echoes of Times. The project might have been scrapped and restarted, but I can't see why they would have scrapped Crystal Bearers and did another multiplayer Crystal Chronicles instead.

I had this fantasy back in the day of the N64, when they started with all the connectivity stuff, about a game that had both a N64 version and a Gameboy Color version. The N64 version would have true 3d graphics, the Gameboy Color version a top-down perspective - but the events in the game would be the same. You could play a bit on the N64, save the game, synchronize with the Gameboy Color version and then play further on the Gameboy Color.

Would this be something similar?

Square-Enix are following the Capcom model regarding Wii development.

Lots of quick and cheap games to test the water before committing significant resources.

Does it say anywhere if the Wii version is Wii Ware or retail? It might be a better fit for Wii Ware (and might allow S-E to get away with less than stunning presentation for the Wii version).

And the fact that S-E have gone to the trouble of naming their cross-platform engine might suggest that we might be seeing other similar projects.

Apparently, they mention a price in that and because of that it doesn't sound like it'll be Wii Ware (too high, I assume). It's a bad idea, anyway. £10 Wii Ware, and £30 DS game? The DS game would seem like a rip off.

It's the engine used in DQIX too, interestingly, so there might be a surprise in store at TGS about that. :o

I should probably get around to playing Ring of Fates before it's rendered obsolete.

But I suppose a western release is going to be quite a way off.

I still need to finish the first one, but doesn't look too bad. I like the way they're making good use of the Wii/DS Connectivity finally.

This game is definitely less exciting now we know that the Wii version is just the DS game on a big screen.

This is still annoying me.

It really should be on Wii Ware. My Life as a King was a success there and the DS-level presentation would be almost acceptable.

As a full retail Wii game it's going to be a disaster. I can see it now - First week sales (Japan): DS - 200k, Wii - 20k.

Either the DS game works out at over 43MB and they didn't want to 'compromise their vision' by downgrading it for the Wii (lol), or Square-Enix don't see Wii Ware as a viable service.

Sqaure really need to do something about their rediculous names.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals: Echoes of Time?

Just ditch either 'final fantasy' or 'crystal chronicals', or even both.

After playing quite a bit of Ring of Fates this week I think I'd probably be quite tempted by the Wii version of Echoes of Time.

3D + d-pad = pain.

Assuming that the Wii version would use the analogue (be it on the Classic Controller or Nunchuk) even if it just replicates the function of the d-pad.
