Not ever, but it’s certainly the best non Mario Kart, kart game. And definitely my favourite at least from that generation.

Was it better than Diddy Kong Racing? I dunno, I only played CTR briefly when I downloaded it on the PS3 but for me it just felt like a typical mascot kart game from the late 90s. I felt it wasn't a patch on MK64 and DKR, and might only have been prominent because it featured on a console which didn't play host to those two.

From what I played of CTR, it didn't seem to hold a candle to DKR in single player or MK64 in multiplayer. It all felt very generic.

The N64 and PSone were sort of like polar opposites when it came to racers - the former had better "cutesy" kart racers but was starved of serious racing sims, something Sony's console had plenty of.

I'd be fascinated to play this and see if a) it's considered to be a faithful recreation of the original and b) it's any good. I never played CTR on PS1 but a number of my non-N64-owning friends swore by this game. My partisan perspective at the time was that it couldn't possibly be anywhere near as good as MK64 and was unlikely to even match DKR. However, time hasn't necessarily been kind to either of those - MK64's multiplayer play have been (arguably unintentionally) perfectly balanced, but its single player was atrociously minimal, and its number of courses looks pathetic judged by a modern context. DKR was only impressively large in comparison to what else was on offer, and its handling was poor; also, its difficulty curve was ridiculously implemented by its developers. With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe setting a very high standard for the modern kart racer, I'd love to see this compete.

The four best kart racers ever made are:

Mario Kart 8
Diddy Kong Racing
Crash Team Racing
Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed

So I am super excited for this remake, but also super worried that they're going to mess it up and have it play differently!

That looks pretty accurate as a recreation, although maybe slightly faster? Not sure if that's just the shinier visuals playing tricks on me.

Having not played anything after CTR I do not know if these new characters and tracks are a good thing or not.

Out next week, so it’s in the “Games coming soon” panel on the XB1 dash. Priced at £54.99 lol.

To be fair, it's pretty much two games in one with the content that's packed in there, and it'll be seeing more free support after release.
That's about the price I was expecting.

It's £54.99 for the Nitros Oxide Edition which includes early unlocks for some characters, an early unlock for one kart and some skins, paint jobs, stickers, decals and podium animations that aren't in the game otherwise.
The standard version is £34.99 and the retail version can be bought for less than £30.

£20 extra for some exclusive skins and a few early unlocks is crazy.

Oh. That's a bit of a price hike between versions, but then... it's Activision. There had to be some way to make extra money from it, and I think Beenox might have absolutely refused to include microtransactions.

That makes more sense. Cheers.
