Having great fun with this. The feeling of speed is amazing, and am finally venturing online. Tempted to get it as a digital download too as I'll be playing this for months to come.

Have the game on PS4, if anyone wants a friend for some competition. PSN ID is grrich.

I love the sound of all the Spyrocharacters, will have to get them all when they come out.

Do you think I would like this? I never really played the crash games nor CTR. I love Mario Kart, F Zero, Wipeout and enjoy realistic racing games as well. Do you think I would be likely to enjoy it without any Crash nostalgia to mask any shitness?

Yeah it is fun to play and playing online can be great with mates.

There is an adventure story if you want to do it on solo. And there is a battle mode, Grand Prix cups, time trials and etc. With the CPUs, mates or mixed as well.

I never had any investment in the world of Crash when I first got this, but it was fun enough that it stayed a part of me from when I first played it to now.

Like DarkRula, I had previously not really played any sort of Crash game, but enjoyed this game a lot and have become somewhat invested in its world now I guess. Started playing N Sane Trilogy afterwards and have been enjoying that a lot too.

There may be some recency bias involved since the game is fresh to me, but honestly I think CTR might be better than those other kart racers, and I've played a fair few including all the Mario Karts, Diddy Kong Racing and more recently Sonic All Stars Transformed. 'Course though, they all have their strengths and Nitro Fuelled is not without its issues.

Yeah, it's great. The tracks are very well designed, it has a great feeling of speed, challenge, and plays fantastically. Has a load of content, and will keep getting updated with a few new tracks, lots more drivers, etc. It's not as well balanced as a Mario Kart, but it's definitely a top tier kart racer.

It has basically swallowed up all my gaming hours for the past fortnight. Has been fun to see the skill level online climbing as well. Would like to see them improve the matchmaking though.

I'd like to see them increase the speed of the blue orb so the person on first place can't just outrun it for an insane amount of time.

GP2 details out now, starts on Friday.

Had a great time with the first, but will have less free time for this one. The level of skill really shot up over the month as well, so would like to see a better matchmaking system introduced.

Still mostly looking forward to the next (Spyro!) GP though :msgreen:

In other "No strawberry floating gooseberry fool" news, microtransactions are coming alongside the new Grand Prix, because Activision.

Except for the fact they tried overcharging for one of the starting bundles, there doesn't seem to have been much impact with microtransations coming soon. They still shouldn't be there in the first place and the Pit Stop should not have been built the way it is, but there really hasn't been much impact.

Not as bad as expected. They shouldn't be there in the first place, but at least it's not as bad as it could have been.

Is it just credits to speed up progress? I don't get what the issue with this is, if so.

It's not so much what they're used for. It's the practice of building the game around them, not including them from the start to bring all the praise and actively avoiding the ratings boards' words on what they'd have to say about the game were they there from the start, then including them after the first major event of the game with a statement that "at least you get a helping hand now and a choice of whether to use them or not", when as is known, these companies develop these systems to prey on those who can't help themselves.

As already said, it's not as bad as it could have been, but there's already signs that prices for the newer content will be rising, especially when you consider what content will be coming in the next GP, and they've already cut the amount of coins able to be earned once so who is to say it won't happen again. Sure, it doesn't affect the actual gameplay, but it's free-to-play tactics in a paid retail game where the core concept is direct people to use the current crop of cosmetics so others will want them as well.

Plenty of people are indifferent on this, and microtransactions in general, but if a company can get away with charging for content already in the actual game, they will. I saw elsewhere that someone had made a comparision between the DLC packs for Mario Kart 8 and the amount of money you'd need to spend to get all the content from this current GP. The difference is huge. And sure, you can unlock the stuff in CTR without paying up, but if the option is there, people will pay up.

My work bought me this for my birthday, hoping to give it a bash over the weekend.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

You should certainly enjoy it. You have any experience of the original?

There are no "good" microtransactions. The whole space is designed to manipulate and encourage spending.

Wait, what? They've made it take longer to unlock stuff with an update, and then added micro-transactions to unlock that stuff with another?

That's super scummy if so. Can I earn coins quicker if I buy the game on disc and don't install any patches?

Before the first GP started, they nerfed the amount of coins you could get from offline races, as well as the bonuses from offline. While nothing more has happened yet, it could be that Activision don't get the amount of sales from the microtransactions, so do the same for online racing as well - which... considering you can get 500 coins on some races with full bonuses even if you don't get top three, I can see it happening. Especially as the Spyro content will be the stuff that people want most.

Also, you need to be online to earn any coins to begin with, so no. Avoiding updates will not work.
