The art style and concept is amazing but what put me off from buying this before is that I don't want to spend money on a game that so many people have found torturously hard. I was almost tempted to get this release but your words have been helpful in explaining why I shouldn't!

The hardness is utterly overstated. It's not hard in a cruel or unusual way, it's just a game built on trial and error, with enough visual and audio flare to keep you enticed. It's the best game in its genre at what it does.

Agree it is hard but trial and error will see you manage it eventually.

Looks decent. I've never finished the game, but that's more through lack of time. It is absolutely excellent and I do need to get back on it at some point.

Beat this with a friend a couple months ago, really fun game. Was bored last week and wanted a challenge so figured I'd take a crack at the single player experience on expert. There were a few tricky bosses, mostly because some phases just really seemed to drag, but got it all finished "200%". I'd often get to the last phase of a boss without taking any damage and still lose, so replaying already perfected runs was a bit dull. Also decided to go for all the in-game achievements; I wish there were more run & gun levels cause they really help break up the constant boss fight gameplay. Trying to work out how to do all pacifist runs was super fun and shows how clever the level design is. Will have to check out the DLC some time, doubt we'll get any kind of sequel any time soon if at all.

If anyone's looking to do expert, I'd recommend just using the +2 health power-up. I found it to be most rewarding.
