Really excited for this, as it was one of those Xbox exclusives that really looked great.
Gonna wait for the physical version.

It's one of the best-looking games in recent years, got to be worth a punt even if it's notoriously difficult.

The bottom line is that beyond the technical minutiae, the takeaway here is simple: Cuphead on Switch is a complete match to Xbox and PC in terms of both visuals and performance.

As we’ve been hard at work on Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, we’ve received so much love from all of our fans that we thought we’d drop one last free content update as just a little thank you.

This free patch is coming April 18
and it features a bevy of new features, art, and back end changes readying Cuphead for the adventures ahead. First up, no longer relegated to second fiddle, Mugman is now playable in single-player. Complete with his own level completion jingle, Mugman is selectable from the main menu when starting or continuing any game.

Next, we’ve added tons of new art and animation. The grandest addition is that we’ve went back and fully animated all our cinematic cut-scenes. We’ve also added multiple fight intros for Cuphead and Mugman, added new special effects to the Legendary Chalice’s granting of Super Arts, new enemy explosions, new puffs of smoke, new background details, and more!

Finally, on the programming side, we have put in a ton of work optimizing the game through the Unity engine. This means that we’ve been able to reduce loading times for many parts of the game and drastically shrink the game’s footprint on your Xbox hard drive. Also, this re-engineering of the game code should allow us to have much smaller patch sizes in the future.

Game is now 4GB instead of 11GB.

I bought this on Switch at the weekend. I was a bit apprehensive about buying it, incase it was so hard I couldn't get past the first stage. However, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've beaten 6-7 stages already. Yes it's very hard, but you really do learn the patterns and it's very rewarding.

Also playing on Switch. Finished Isle II just now. The Dragon boss took me over an hour :fp:

Pretty sure that each remaining stage will take a similar amount of time just to beat on regular, no matter what the rank. Can't tell if I'm bad or not. Given that the average time to beat the game seems to be around 9 hours, I guess I am

I must admit I’m pretty disappointed in this after being desperate to play it for the past year. The visual are undoubtedly gorgeous but honestly that’s about all it has going for it at the moment. I was hoping the music would be on par but it’s not at all, just rather plain sax and trumpet background noise. The platforming and difficulty is where it really disappoints though. The straight platforming levels are pretty boring bar the art style and with no checkpoints are just insanely frustrating and boring to repeat over and over. The same goes for the bosses. It seems like the difficulty is way beyond where it needs to be as dying over and over adds nothing to the experience.

Just as a sheer difference of opinion, I don't feel like any of it is boring or too difficult.

The bar of difficulty is set just right to make it feel fair, challenging, but manageable. Through enough persistence and focus, I've been able to gradually progress and learn patterns on every single stage.

In terms of finding it boring to keep on repeating in order to learn, that's just a matter of attitude/preference. Knockouts are immensely satisfying in a way that few 'get gud' games can match.

Apologies for double post. Nearly done on Isle III now. Just got the Ghost Train boss and one run & gun left to play.

Beating Dr. Khal's Robot is one of the best feelings I've ever had from a videogame. Took about 90 mins but I did it :datass:

Cuphead, the memorable 2017 bullet-hell shooter that's meticulously styled after a 1930's cartoon, will soon be playable on an unlikely new platform: Tesla's fleet of electric cars and their built-in dashboard screens. The breakout hit, which debuted on Xbox One and PC before being ported to Nintendo Switch earlier this year, is on the way to Tesla's Model 3, Model S, and Model X, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on episode 200 of my weekly Tesla podcast, Ride the Lightning (at the 36:48 mark).

"Cuphead, we've got working," Musk said. "[The developers] have been helping us make it work. It's a cool game. It's insanely difficult. It's sadistically difficult. It's a twisted plot. It's dark. It looks like some cute little Disney thing and you're like, 'This plot is very dark'," he added with a laugh.

Musk had recently tweeted about how he and his team have been porting the Unity game engine, which Cuphead runs on, to work in Teslas. According to Maja Moldenhauer from Studio MDHR, the developer of Cuphead, the Tesla version is looking good and already running "nice and clean." Studio MDHR and Tesla are targeting a release date of later this summer, and the in-car version will only include the Inkwell Isle One section of the game, due to the storage limitations of Tesla vehicles (which Musk discusses in the interview).

“When Tesla reached out to us to bring Cuphead to their vehicles, we were thrilled!" Moldenhauer said. "Finding out that Mr. Musk was a fan of our game was extremely humbling and getting a chance to work with such an innovative company has been really exciting. We hope Cuphead can add some classic fun to such forward-thinking vehicles.” She told me that their only requirements in agreeing to the project were that "it has to play super, super clean" with regard to framerate ("It's a tight game," she said), and that it had to control precisely. As such, only a wired USB controller will work with the Tesla version; you cannot play it using car's touchscreen controls.

More imaginative, screen-filling bosses. Entirely new weapons & charms. And of course, another playable character - the lovely Ms. Chalice! A cornuCUPia of fantastic action awaits in Studio MDHR's Cuphead DLC pack, The Delicious Last Course. Originally announced for release in 2019, DLC will now be coming in 2020 to ensure it's cooked to perfection!

I'd say we need at least 5 new bosses to feel worthwhile. Likely buying either way.
