I have a new favourite game.
Image
It's been a while since I've really, and I mean really gotten into a game to the point where I have not wanted to stop playing, my Wii says I just played this for 4 hours straight. Had I started it earlier in the day I'd have probably been on it for much longer. The game is technically a film tie-in (said film being a book adaptation) as well which means it gets to join the small list of video game film tie in's that are not gooseberry fool. This was made by the Ace Combat team so I now I'm tempted to try the Ace Combat games sometime in the future. I don't think this is a game for everybody, I'm sure some people will despise the concept of using the nunchuk to steer a fighter plane.

I really like the motion controls for this actually, it's one of the wii games that actually made the motion controls work the way people imagined they would in 2006 (the nunchuk is the stick and the wiimote the throttle), they are not perfect (a lot of people seemed not to like it for obvious reasons) and like every wii game they can gooseberry fool out on you sometimes but they are still one of the more clever uses of the controller I have seen. It's a pretty easy game to be honest, I'll probably replay it on hard, I think the developers probably made it easier because they probably would have knew if the motion controls didn't work well the game would become harder than it needed to be to be enjoyable.

Puppeteer. This is damn good. A strawberry floating shitload of love and attention has been put into this and it really shows. The visuals and general presentation is simply outstanding. Completed the first act and enjoyed it immensely.

Bought the new Dead Rising 3 DLC. Utterly bizarre stuff. Like some 80s neon scrawling fighter. Excellent tributes to loads of capcom games though. Can't wait to unlock all the cos play stuff.

Wish my image sig would work

Started playing Child of Light. Awesome looking and has lovely music, but it hasn't grabbed me at all. Feels like there's something missing.

Oh and the poetry :dread:

Seems OK, not great, I think playing with a squad and communicating will make it better, but, I find that with BF4.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

I was so impressed by the trailer last night in the Sony conference for the next one that i've gone back to the first one to play the series. Thought i'd played a decent amount of it before, but apparently was only 4% of the way in. I'm at 12% now after just defeating Bane. Love the combat in this, it's like a more satisfying Assassin's Creed.

Joer :fp: Have word with yourself.
Forza Horizon is a mere 10 foils this week so I've bought it. It's rather good actually, quite surprised. The presentation just veers away from excessive dudebro, and the events have a decent mix so far.
Swayed my decision to get an Xbone for Horizon 2 even earlier, so a timely sale price indeed MS, you sly buggers.

Or you could save a lot of money and get Horizon 2 on 360 instead.

No I'm all about the power of the cloud, real time star constellations and all those other game changers.

This harp minigame in the Pumpkin bar in Skyward Sword may be the worst thing humanity has ever created. I especially love when Link strums the harp when I'm not moving the controller.

That minigame was an utter turd.

Child of Light. I'm breaking out of the prison. The gameplay is still pretty average to be honest. I love the presentation and the soundtrack (the best thing about this game by far) but it seems lacking when it comes to actually playing the game.

Plus the strawberry floating poetry :dread:

My thoughts exactly. It's the battles I didn't like - so bloody dull when the potential was there for them to be brilliant. And the story isn't up to much for an RPG either.

I hadn't heard anything about the soundtrack except that it was done by the excellent Coeur de Pirate, so glad to hear it's good. I'll probably pick it up when it's cheap, as most people have said the game itself is only decent.

Super Mario Land 2 (on 3DS).

Folks give SMB2 a bad rap for being so un-Mario like, yet this one gets glossed over for how bizarre it is! So many level themes and enemies that you'd never associate with Mario, plus the controls and physics are a little janky by series standards.

Still have a massive soft spot for it though, and I love this tune:

Very nice cover of it here:
