Shin Megami Tensei IV:

I'd forgot how bonkers the writing is in SMT games at times, in a game about the impending apocalypse and demons one early plot revolves around the transformative power of literature

That's a shame. I'm at level 19 with over 33 hrs played now and it still draws me in. I'm nowhere near an rpg fan (FF7 & 8 being my only rpg experience previously) but I'm enjoying it immensely. Plus on the Vita it looks gorgeous with the OLED screen. Its handy for a 10 minute blast or for a full 90 minute session.

so yeah, im currently playing Rainbow Moon, interspersed with some AC4 Black Flag which ive finally got back into this week after owning it since December!

Not enjoying this gymkhana challenge. It's like they played dark souls &thought it was a good idea to make into a racing game.
To get a platinum medalI have to hit all the targets & get 200,000 points in about a minute & a bit.
I'll be lucky to hit 150,000. At a push I bet I could hit 175,000.

Surely the point of having a platinum medal level of reward is to make you have to perfect your skills.

If you don't like that mode why are you trying to do this? I don't get this kind of response that Dirt 3/4 gets, you can skip/put very little effort in to those parts of the game you don't like and still see the rest of the 'racing' experience available in the game if you really don't like that mode.

If you want easy gymkhana stuff try dirt showdown, the handbrake is basically the "do a cool thing" button, and you sort of lock to the spin cone things as you donut round them.

DiRT 3

Took a month or so's break from this, as it was getting a bit boring. Have come back to it though and enjoying it again, although I could still take or leave the gymkhana stuff. Rallying part of it is far and away the best bit, some of the races are okay though. On the final season, hoping to finish it off this week.

Metroid Prime

Enjoying it more. The constant backtracking is a bit annoying, but it's quite compelling once you get into it. Still don't really see what all the fuss is about, but it's decent.

GTA: San Andreas

Decided to pick this up when it was at £2.99 on the XBLM, having given it up on it a few years back. Okay so far, but I'm too early on to really assess it. Still haven't got to the point where I gave up on it before, so I'll see how I feel by that point. It's not a great port - frame rate's patchy and I've had a couple of cut scenes where the audio's cut out, but it decent enough for a PS2 game. Nothing game-breaking or distracting enough to spoil things.

I need to put aside some money for this. It will be my first SMT game.

Fez. Was gonna wait until I got a Vita next week to start it but since I have nothing else left to play on PS3 I said I might as well play something. Wow, suddenly I see where all the acclaim came from. This is strawberry floating brilliant. Yet so goddamn mind-numbing and confusing. The map is strawberry floating huge, too. This is gonna take a while.

Resident Evil 3 via Vita, re started it after months of not playing. Took a while to get into but enjoyable enough. Lacks the atmosphere of 1 and 2 but the nemesis is awesome.

Wish my image sig would work

Managed to pick up Disgaea 3 and 4 for the Vita yesterday for the grand total sum of £12. Not played any Disgaea game before and not convinced they will be my thing but seem ideal for portable pick up and play sessions. Sure I will make money on them if decide to sell on as well.

Been playing Borderlands (the original) on PC over last few days, although I only play it if people around are able to do so. Well I might boot up my 360 character that I've exported to PC from 360, Lv63 Solider, just to muck around but yeah.

Also got my 360 characters copied over to PC version so now I am able to use them on PC version of Borderlands 2 :D 60FPS Gunzerkier action baby.

I got my old 32" CRT back this weekend so I'm going to be hooking up my Dreamcast and GameCube. In fact, where would one buy a Slim PlayStation 2 these days?

Anyways, Metroid Prime is going to be one of those games I'll re-visit.

Zelda Wind Waker Wii U - Genuinely shocked at how amazing this looks on the Wii U and am playing this instead of Bayonetta 2 at the moment! Looking to get through and complete all side missions.

Mario 3D World - Pretty good game, but do not feel it is near the greats like Mario 64, Sunshine and the Galaxy titles. It almost feels like this is what a 2D Mario game should be as there are way too many 2D esque sections. It feels like a bunch of mini levels put together.

Don't get me wrong, it controls well, but feels like a rush job. Wish Nintendo would go back to the Super Mario 64/ Sunshine model.

MK8 - So far, so good. Only on the 50CC races, so it is a little easy at the moment. I expect it will improve further on and then will get to the online games.

I would love to see another Super Mario 64 (Sunshine not so much) but 3D World to me is a text book example of a game that has been polished to perfection. If 3D World feels like a rush job to you I'd like to know what your idea of a well-polished game is.

Everything is well polished, but it's like they have shortened every level. I do hope they abandon this type of 3D game and keep it on the 3DS, where it should have been in the first place imo.

Look forward to Zelda lite in the future then...sigh!

I too would love a return to big open Mario worlds with a great hub at the centre. Nothing wrong with navegating a map of shorter levels but I feel they've done it to death now since they started it with Galaxy 2, not to mention the NSMB games which all follow a similar structure as well.

When was the last time we got a proper 3D platformer in the vein of Mario 64, Banjo, DK64 and the like? Do they even make them anymore? :( I can't remember the last time I played one! Must've been on the Gamecube. I don't really count Mario Galaxy as it was more a halfway house between the two styles with its bite-sized levels and frankly quite poor and small hub. I miss these kind of games! They were so popular during my teens but seemed to jusy completely die out or morph into 3rd person shooters a la Rachet & Clank or Jak & Daxter.

Exactly! I want a proper open world Mario title, even larger than Super Mario 64 with more creative quests.

Well, the old-school 3D "platformers" weren't really platformers at all, now we look back at the them. Or, at least, they weren't a true 3D representation of 2D platformers - they were more akin to just an open world, adventure game. The Galaxy titles and 3D World/Land games are a far more accurate 3D representation of a 2D Mario game than SM64 was.

But I still miss these old school 3D platformers. I was sort of raised on a diet of Banjo-Kazooie, DK64 and the like, as I grew up with the N64, and loved games of their type.

The new Mario games should replace the 2D titles and a proper adventure should be made for the next mario. Won't happen due to how cheap it is to churn out these 'new' mario games.

I'd be up for more 3D World, it was fantastic. I think a sequel is a dead cert at some point in the future.
