Some mates are away in Prague so I've been playing some sp stuff recently.

Assassins Creed Odyssey is remarkable. Like Shadow of War it suffers a terrible opening part but like that game once past it, it really is impressive. The world is vast and the story satisfyingly simple. One of the more impressive parts was, while sailing to the next objective I noticed a golden circle on an island we passed. Stopped our ship and swam onto it, it was a tomb of course but it was stunning to look at, and I was astounded that such a beautiful place was tucked away simply as a small side quest. The game proper is also ridiculously gorgeous and beats Origins hands down in that regard. The only thing I don't get on with is my horse, it's far more janky than the my horse in Origins and when on 'follow road' mode it does run into people far more than it did in Origins.

The enemies there are fast as strawberry float and hit like trucks for little to no reward. Twice now I have offed the boss (an early example of the giant enemy crab) only to die making my way back to the exit.

I’ve just spent the last hour or so loading up on healing supplies and will try again this afternoon.

EDIT: I finished the warehouse and moved on to the final area of the game. Whereas the rest of the game moves at an excellent pace the museum area seems to have been made overly long purely to pad the game out a little.

That's a shame, one of the things that drew me to the game is it being relatively short for a Squaresoft title, I'm guessing they felt pressure to pad it a bit to not disappoint those used to their bigger games

It’s not a game breaker just a rather jarring change of pace. Each day of the game is plot-short dungeon-plot but day five changes things with plot-short dungeon-plot-short optional dungeon-long dungeon-plot.

My dude was finally shot in the back at airfield in DayZ. Dude must have been just waiting around for ages. I already have a handgun and shot gun with bullets with my respawned dude though and I'm gonna kill anyone I see on sight. :x

AC Odyssey is as achingly gorgeous as ever:

Started playing X com. Really enjoying it, I didn't think they had bases in the remake but they to have put them in. Not finding it particularly difficult at the moment although guessing it ramps up later on.

Due to cancelling PS+ back in January no thanks to sudden renewal, despite never turned on auto renewal - grr - I had £50 in my PSN wallet because they don't want to put that in my bank, dicks, anyway yesterday I got Tetris Effect, and I have to say it's really good even without VR. I do have to turn blocks to traditional colours though as default setting made it harder for me to spot difference between Ls and Zs...

Other than that, having fun trying to improve my scores as I progress to level 100 (which will take while, but I'm not in rush)

Still playing KH3, not much as before though but working on 100%ing it. Good game just not best one imo

And I started Metro 2033 again, this time Redux version on Xbox one. Runs really well on my original Xbox one, which I'm happy with. Trying for all dairies before moving to next area, even if I have to replay the said chapter. Feels bit easier this time but will probably be challenging soon. (Went for survival mode instead of new mode)

Still grinding out on Kingdom Hearts Final Mix on Proud difficulty.

Safe to say that I'll give the rest of KH games a break after this. Not really looking forward to playing KH Chain of Memories on Proud difficulty really.

The Gardens Between (via gamepass).

Really liked the look of this game when i read some reviews for it on Switch. Was too tight to purchase it then, but bizarrely not to tight to purchase an XB1 and gamepass (man maths - it rocks).

So far (about 3 hours in) and im really enjoying it. On a surface level it looks like it would be too simplistic to prove a challenge, but so far the puzzles have been at just the right level for me. Some of them you almost solve through trial and error, but generally it comes down to that "ah ha" moment, which always release a little short of endorphins as a reward.

There is also a nice mixture of ways to manipulate time. Often it comes down to scrubbing through a canned animation, but sometimes there is more to it than that, such as observing visual indicators within the composition of the screen at that time.

If you like puzzles and fancy something that is genuinely a bit different, i urge you to give this a go. And if you have gamepass then its a no brainer (says the man who justified spending £430 to play it "for free")*

*obviously i did not buy an XB1X just to play The Gardens Between.... The Late Shift is also on the service.

Plugging away at Axiom Verge, which I keep getting lost in. Game sorely needs a better fast travel system.

Finished playing Anthem on PC. Level 30, all missions done (just contracts now) and it seems to be contracts or farming 3 strongholds for Masterwork, Legendary gear which is dull. A "meh!" game. Started Metro: Exodus. So far, so brilliant!

Done with Metro 2033 Redux for now (not fully finished yet, need to do another playthrough on different mode/be tight git with money), can't help but I do feel original version is better, maybe my memory playing tricks on me. I do like how Redux combined the levels though, and the fact it plays very smooth on my original Xbox One.

Going to move to its sequel!

Have put in good amount of hours on the sequel to Metro 2033 it does feel lot more polish, though it doesn't have tense moments as much as originals due to fighting humans more than mutants in this entry, and player character himself has better combat experience as well.

Still, I'm having fun. Seems quite longer than first game too

Borderlands handsome collection. I have now effectively bought borderlands 2 three times on different platforms and got insane amounts of playtime on each occasion. I think this may well be my highest played game of all time. I absolutely love it. I already had pre sequel before too but to have every single bit of DLC and content in one package is just a ridiculous amount of value. And that’s from me who has played this game to death and yet I still enjoy kicking back and playing it. I couldn’t imagine how good it would be for someone experiencing it for the first time.

Forza Horizon 4 (back in love with driving games now it would seem, though the progression system does seem a bit odd, like how well you are playing is largely irrelevant).
Head Lander (great metroidvania that i had never even heard of).
Layers of Fear (so far, so harrowing. For some reason it feels like i am in VR when i play it... perhaps its because i always play it when its dark and i wear a pair of headphones).

Picked up Far Cry 5 and New Dawn in Asda for £56 for the pair. Currently playing through FC5 and I have to say it's my favourite Far Cry to date. I love the setting and the darkly comedic tale therein. It's also home to some great music. Some of the changes are welcome ones too and I'm glad they finally ditched the towers. I've liberated one region and and very close to liberating the second. A very satisfying game from top to bottom.

Back trying to complete Hollow Knight after parking it a while back. Decided to abandon trying to 100% it and just get to the credits now as I think all the backtracking and searching around to try and get absolutely everything was partly what was starting to get me down.

Trashed the Watcher Knights yesterday evening and had a couple of quick goes at The Hollow Knight - got through the first couple of phases of his attacks but I'm not sure how much more of a fight he's got in him at that point!

How do you even know where to go when you’ve been away from Hollow Knight for a while? I loaded it up not long back and got bored after 30 mins of aimless wondering as I had no clue where I needed to be heading :(

Outside of MK8 Deluxe thats the only game I’ve got left to play to completion (as I’ve finally decided Stardew Valley just isn’t for me) before I can finally cave and buy another couple of eShop games.

Tales of Symphonia (Gamecube)
I’m about 21 hours into this. Still enjoying it, although the story is getting increasingly bizarre and difficult to care about. It feels like it’s moving along at a decent pace and certainly doesn’t feel like I’m 21 hours in, so I guess that’s a good thing. Feels like I’m over-levelled though, without particularly trying to be, as most battles and bosses are very straightforward. There’s also some weird dialogue…it’s difficult to know the exact age of the characters but I’m sure on at least a couple of occasions one of the guys is lusting after one or more of the children and making comments about other characters and their ‘assets’. Slightly odd. Anyway, good fun for the most part, very little to complain about.

I was pretty near the end when I took a break from it so I only had one place left to go really!

It was backtracking everywhere and pushing out at the edges of each of the games areas to try and 100% it that was getting me down though, it's a fantastic game but one which could do with a couple of "quality of life" improvements in my view.
