Yep, agree with all of that!

I can't really see me putting any more time into it in all honesty, even with getting the game for free I feel like it's let me down. Life is too short to waste it on bad 3D platformers!

A lot of people love Yooka-Laylee. I don't like it really, but I also am not a fan of Banjo. Maybe it's because I didn't play it at the time and instead played it on the 360 so it lost a lot of it original, err, I don't know, appeal, flare, some magic word?

Stardew Valley - Currently its Spring year 2, finally managed to get past level 30 in the mines (them bastard flies keep appearing after you think you've killed all the larvae), have got the hang of fishing and am making great progress in wooing Leah (best waifu material).

My virtual life is far more exciting than my actual life :fp:

Stardew Valley has been at or near the top of the download charts for an age now.

It's really not my kind of game, but I watched an ex gf sitting entranced by it, to the extent that I started enjoying watching her playing it more than watching TV. There's something soothing, satisfying about even just watching someone play it.

So, it's one of the few games I've never played that I'd still be happy to recommend

And I'm done with Yooka Laylee - gave it one last try yesterday evening and there is just nothing there - no reason whatsoever to persevere with the chore that this game is.

Banjo may not have been perfect, and it certainly had plenty of flaws, but it gooseberry fools all over this from a lofty height.

I finished Conker's Bad Fur Day for the first time the other day. I'd played pretty much all of it as a kid via the chapter select cheats, but I'd never sat through the whole linear story.

Yeah... It's rougher than I remember. The first half or so is still fun, but the latter half is chock full of garbage gun controls and huge difficulty spikes, not to mention lengthy sections you have to start from the very beginning if you die. And fall damage. In a platformer.

I still had fun overall, but I think that may have been swayed by nostalgia. If I'd never played it before, I probably would have dropped it

As an aside, the multiplayer is still the best of it's generation and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.

I am playing Lines X, a cheapo e-shop game which is all about joining different coloured dots with lines of the same colour and zzzzzzz.

No wait, hang on, it's actually pretty good for a quid or two. It's a sort of logic puzzle where coloured lines can't cross each other and zzzzzz

Ok, I know.

Still, I'm really enjoying it, even if it's kind of a phone game. My main mistake has been trying to double dip with another puzzler in Baba is You, which is great but another puzzler. And also Tetris 99, which is also great but also another puzzler.

And also Ding Dong, I think it's called, where you bounce a ball back and forth whilst trying to avoid hitting things, which is less great but still a fun five minute diversion. And is also a bit of a puzzler.

I'm clearly a sucker for an involving plot and an emotionally involving storyline.

Yeah, I remember loads of people complaining about certain sudden death areas which I just sailed through. But other areas no-one mentioned which I died on repeatedly, so I'd definitely support the 'its rough' diagnosis.

I would have described and put those bits into spoiler boxes, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm also not sure how long it takes after the event to constitute a spoiler (ps, yes they needed a bigger boat). But I suppose not that many people played Conker due to its limited release and 'adult' (pretty mild) content, and also some of it was all about the impact of the 'shock' content, so best hold off.

I really did enjoy playing it, and it's silly humour and pop culture references. I can still remember the Great Mighty Poo song, for instance. But it just felt like a weird curio even at the time, where they'd been given the freedom to do what they liked, but they just made a really narrow game designed to get you from joke to joke more than anything else instead. That's not a complaint, I just can't put it in context with many other similar games. It sort of felt like Rare's goodbye to platforming though

Update

Bankrupted myself by upgrading my house because all the prospective waifus (or husbandos if you roll that way) are materialistic and won't live in a small house.

Am now growing coffee and fishing for Sea Cucumbers to replace my diminishing coffers.

Sims 4 had been given away for free some time ago on Origin, and yesterday I went on it for the first time since I claimed it. First off, I had completely forgot that Star Wars costumes were in the game, so of course I went for a Darth Maul outfit. Second off, I want to thank whatever algorithm is in charge of assigning names to the NPCs for having the first one to greet me after moving in be named Summer Holiday. Of course I quickly proceeded to get her into my household and woo[hoo] her.

Fable III
A few hours in and it's actually okay.
There are some annoyances for sure, but it's not all out shite like I'd been led to believe.

Glass Masquerade
I've gone back to this after realising there was some DLC I hadn't got.
Love this game.

I really wanted to play Fable 3 but the fact the menu system is a series of strawberry floating fully rendered rooms you have to walk through put me off completely.

So many odd design choices in that game. The worst was getting rid of the expression wheel and instead giving you one of two random choices to choose from.

It actually had a really neat idea at the end (making you king) which they executed really badly.

Just started playing Witcher 3. I love the voice acting and interactions so far but why is the text so small? I swear I’m squinting most the time. That will be unplayable in handheld when they release it on Switch, if they don’t change it.

Sounds like Xenoblade Chronicles X all over again then! I can’t wait to play it later in the year on Switch though.

Finally booted up the original Bayonetta having beaten B2 on Switch over a year ago.

Pace is a little slower and screen is way more packed. Step down in graphics is notable too. Cutscenes through the first two hours (3 chapters) of the game really dragged on too.

The vampire world was very frustrating. Also the area where you have to fight a boss surrounding by submarines.

But I loved the Matrix rip off.

Made quite a bit of progress in Dragon Quest XI over the weekend. I’m rather liking the freedom you’re given in the second part of the game. Due to my explorative nature I’ve done a few of the events in what could be deemed the wrong order but doing so has made me a little overpowered once I was back on track.

Spent a few hours on Sea of Thieves yesterday morning. It really is breath taking at times. It has so many things to do these days that I generally set off south (to the clear and blue water) and do my own thing. I found a good few gems on shipwrecks and on mermaid statues in the shallow waters near a few islands and fished a fair bit while I sailed. The noise of the wind and the waves relaxing me from golden coast to golden coast. The sun sets, the stars, the moon leading to the Sun Rise are all gorgeous to behold.

Just the one screenshot, but could have taken a hundred.

I've also been quite taken aback at how good Turok still is. It runs at a silky smooth 60fps/1080p and you can dial back the fog effect from the N64 original. Aiming is a little twitchy but the enemy animations are fluid and looking for the keys for further levels is pretty engrossing, scouring massive levels. The combat is frenetic and the platforming is easier with a locked frame rate.
