After a gap of a few years, I've returned to Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask on 3DS.

I've always enjoyed the Layton games. I completed the four titles that appeared on the DS and returning to Miracle Mask has reminded me just what a jolly jaunt the series is! The game mechanisms work well and little extras are packed in whilst the graphics and presentation are extremely well done. The puzzles seem to be generally very good with just the odd obscure one cropping up. I'm looking forward to solving this mystery!

These games are so gosh darn charming  They're great games to pass the system around to nearby friends+family when you get to the puzzles too

I never did get to Azran Legacy, the very last one. Hopefully it'll run well on Citra in time for a potential future stream...

Wizards & Warriors (PC)

I originally bought this old school RPG on its release - 19 years ago!

Regrettably I sold it several years later, but upon seeing the game on GoG I re-bought it last year. Started playing this evening. Marvellous stuff. I really do enjoy this type of RPG. Might & Magic, Wizardry, Dungeon Master, there's just something about the atmosphere they conjure that I feel modern RPGs lack.

After a few weeks off, I've really gotten back into Destiny again.

It's strange. Normally, when an online game gets its hooks into me I'll play intensively for a few months then drop away as the endgame approaches. Here, largely because I've joined a clan to help with said content, that dropoff hasn't happened. The opposite has occurred: I've begun to engage in the stuff.

We ran the Last Wish raid again on Saturday and got it down to 2 hours rather than 6. Still not as good as the 1 hour 10 another group from the clan managed, but it's pretty impressive. In a bizarre stroke of luck I then got my hands on arguably the game's best shotgun which lies behind a long and arduous horde mode. One of the guys has done said quest 30 times and still not received the reward (with its reported 2% drop rate) and as this particular reward is only available on a three week rotational basis, I wasn't expecting much. Cue the thing dropping for me on our second runthrough. Needless to say, I was stoked.

I also bought the Annual Pass. I am 100% against game passes in general but the Activision news really got me excited about the future of the game and, I'll be honest, everyone else in the clan having cool black and red pass-exclusive weapons pushed me over the edge. It now feels like there's too much to be getting on with, which is a great feeling to have in this sort of game.

Yeah, I completed a couple more puzzles in Miracle Mask yesterday. The games are so well made; everything from the character design to the sound and even the chunky menu font is just great! The 3D is neat, too; on completion of a puzzle, the way that the character(s) point out of the screen is excellent - low-key but impressive, just as effective 3D should be.

Alundra on PS1 (via PS3). I’ve started this a few times but I always get stuck a few dungeons in against a boss I just can’t kill and give up but I’m determined to persevere and beat it this time.

God of War: Chains of Olympus (PS3)

I want to go through the series in narrative order before playing the newest one as i think reminding myself of all the mad gooseberry fool/how much of a dick kratos was would help appreciate new dad of war kratos more. I tried playing ascension but the disc wouldn't work, so i read a plot synopsis and moved on to this. You can tell its an upscaled psp game but it does the job well enough.

Disgaea 5:

I've only played the tutorial mission so far but it's remarkable just how smooth this feels compared to 4, just an absolutely massive step up in polish.

Gone back to Resident Evil : The Umbrella chronicles & it’s already legit doing my tree in.

There is always one game dev that’s gotta try & be different. In this case you have to use two shoulder buttons to throw a grenade. I can’t remember what they are & have died more times than Jesus. Why can’t you game devs be ducking normal & just use one button instead of trying to show off & be all fancy.

It’s same with the knife, if I was a legit raving psychopath & was going to gut someone like a fish, I wouldn’t use two strawberry floating hands to hold the ducking knife.

I’ll make it easy for you, I’d use L1 to Chuck a grenade, R1 to shoot,L2 to heal & R2 to use Mr Pointy.

Woweeeeeeeeeeeeeeee look how easy I made, much better, less hassle.

You sons of bitches strawberry float RE2 up with some fancy dancey bollocks, I’ll be raging.

Two strawberry floating buttons :fp: I can’t roll my eyes hard enough without making my head hurt so here is Iron Man doing it for me

I'm currently afflicted with a rare condition know as 'having too many gaems', this is a side effect of picking up a XBox One over Christmas with game pass. Unfortunately it means nothing is getting the attention it deserves as I can quickly move on to something new. But I'm mostly playing

Graveyard Keeper - I'm liking this an awful lot. The mechanics are kind of similar to Stardew Valley but with extra layers of complexity. In some respects I like having loads of stuff thrown at me right from start but I also feel it could do with leading you a little more. Suffers from some really awful slowdown though which is surprising because it's not doing anything too fancy on the visuals. If/when it comes to Switch then I'll be buying it instantly.

XC2 Torna - About 12 hours in, party is around lv 40. Seems like lots to do and I'm really enjoying the changes to the battle system. It's much easier for example to get full burst mode due to an orb getting attached with every step of a blade special combo.

Other stuff I've dabbled with on game pass

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice - suffering from too many gaems syndrome, played it for 30-40 mins, nothing happened so dropped it.
Sea of Thieves - Had literally no idea what I was supposed to be doing, felt guilty that I was janking the game for whoever I was playing it with as they were just standing around whilst I floundered about so gave up. Might take some time to read a beginners guide before playing again. Seems badly designed for new players but maybe that's just me.

I played this a few months ago and loved it. It was only the second one i had played (the first one being the very first game in the series). The 3D effect is so lovely in it, and i really enjoyed some of the later sections in the game. Also found the story a fun ride with lots of twists and turns.

I was looking about 10 minutes ago at 2nd hand prices for Azran Legacy, but it still seems to sit at around £20. One day though....

As for me, im currently playing Ultrawings VR (everyone with a strong stomach and VR should play this game, its absolutely incredible) and Sushi Strikers (i'm only a couple of hours in and really enjoying it, though i'm not sure if i will ever have to change my strategy up for particular encounters? I guess it will become clear in time).

Picked up SS on the 3DS after playing the demo on the Switch. No regrets. Using a stylus is far more suited to the nature of the game than using a fat finger.

I can't stop playing DayZ, my character has been going now since mid December. I've been in shoot outs, hunted through the woods and sniped at but I've some how survived. I'm pretty much kitted out and I walked along the shore recently to help some new spawns but most people ran away, I guess it's scary seeing a guy with an AK in his hands, a silenced hand gun in chest holster and a camouflaged rifle on my back along with my army clothes but I have spoken to a few who stopped and I gave some food to.

The distance you can see others at in this is insane. Using binoculars I was peering into the distance and to my astonishment I seen a couple of players running about, I just didn't think the game would bother drawing them in at such a vast distance. Very impressive. It's a lovely looking game and runs near 60fps at 4K on X1X.

After a flurry of game acquisition over the past few weeks (Too many to list) I've settled down to one or two to focus on.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (PC) - I haven't really played a DQ game since VIII on the PS2 and it's immediately familiar and immediately fun. I'm about 2-3 hours in, so still very early, but I'm enjoying it so far. Voice acting is as "cockney" as always which is fun and it's delightfully old school in it's mechanics and presentation. There's free-form movement during battles, but it's still essentially turn-based which is nice. It's been a while since a JRPG has properly grabbed me, but this one seems like a viable candidate. It also looks really nice in 4K.

GORN (PC - Oculus Rift) - A gladiator "sim" ( ) with cartoony visuals and over the top violence. Fantastic fun, with a great selection of weapons that work in different ways. Bash in skulls, stab faces or just rip limbs off with your bare hands. It's gloriously violent fun and I've caught myself giggling like an idiot as I bash someone into a spike wall with a giant hammer or cave in their skull with a mace. I always wind up working up a sweat as well. Looking forward to working my way through the various champions that I can challenge periodically and seeing what new weapons I can unlock.

Disgaea 5 is such an improvement in terms of polish and quality of life features that I couldn't go back to the previous games.

I've got Disgaea 2 in my Steam library but I can't see myself playing any time soon.

Mafia 3 - Been delving into the back log recently trying to play a few games I've got off PSN Free games, and I am very pleasantly surprised by this. Looking at the metacritic scores I thought it'd be very average. But the setting, the story, the writing and the way Hanger 13 deal with depicting what it's like to be black 1960's New Orleans is quite impressive, and the sound track is absolutely incredible. Bloody shame the game play is repetitive and the combat rather poor but I was expecting a flawed game so genuinely enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would.

Persona 5. Had it sat on the shelf for over a year now, I think, but decided to give it a go just before Xmas. 60 hours in and it's absolutely brilliant - when I'm not playing it I'm constantly thinking about the plot/characters, and what might happen next. This would have to gooseberry fool itself in some style for it not to be in my top 10 games of all time.

It is, my major problem is that although all my mates own it, they can't stand it so we're stuck on PUBG for the foreseeable future.

Been playing a fair bit of Pac Man Championship 2 for Switch and it's a blast, a great fun, fast and modern take on a classic.
