I have been enjoying my little go with Jak and Daxter today and I will return to it, but my word how good is Metroid Prime? Yeah I've played it before, but on returning it's pleasing to note that it has lost none of it's charm, none of it's brilliance.

Whelp, loaded up Hollow Knight and had no idea where to head (which is what I was thinking would happen) earlier today. While its a good game I do wish it had a option to have your next objective on the map just so it didn’t involve you wondering around for ages to no avail.

Dead Cells on Switch. About 11 hours invested so far. Can reliably beat The Conciergeand have unlocked 3 runes, but get my arse handed to me by both The Timekeeper and Congunctivus.

Game is incredibly addicting and satisfying, but does get samey through the early stages. If anyone has any strats/builds for those two bosses, I'd welcome advice.

As I've now got a grasp of the basics from the sandbox mode, I'm going to try playing Oxygen Not Included on the standard difficulty mode.

I expect to have killed all the colonists within ten minute.

Okay now beat Conjunctivus and got the Spider Rune. Time to press ahead on the main route!

EDIT: Okay, got through The Timekeeper as well with a cheap ice + Crossbowmatic set, but promptly got my arse handed to me by the second round of Elites in High Peak Castle.

At a point now where each run takes at least 35 minutes so it isn't a quick game any more! :slol:

Battletech:

I do wish I was better at these sort of games. I'm enjoying this, but it keeps handing my arse to me in new and interesting ways.

Although it's a turn based strategy game, unlike XCOM and the like battles are more thundering wars of attrition than lighting fast scraps: even the fastest mechs are comparatively ponderous and the idea of one-shotting an enemy disappears after the introductory planet. Instead each fight is a drawn out slogging match between your behemoths and the enemy and...here's where my problem is. A lost arm, and the weapons mounted on it, becomes every bit as devastating as losing a soldier in other games. Positioning is everything, down to your angle of attack. This means that you can misjudge a round, or worse walk into an ambush, and find yourself crippled faster than you know what hit you.

One mission in particular is driving me up the wall. It's timed, which immediately creates a tension, and consists of two primary encounters: one against a squad of tanks and missile launchers and another against a lance of mechs. You have a limited number of turns to defeat these and destroy a building on the far side of the map. I say frustrating because it's up to you which mechs to field and how you equip them, but I cannot find a squad that's both fast enough and tough enough to complete the objective. Perhaps someone more tactically minded could do it, or someone who'd played the previous missions better and come away with better rewards, but I simply find my mechs getting torn apart by the meat grinder or falling short of the timescale.

It's objectively a great game. The base management mechanics are really well handled and the story (bizarrely pro-monarchist as it is) is really good. The problem is me: I'm just not bloody good enough.

The last 4 puzzles were total gooseberry fool which really ruined what was very enjoyable until that point.

Playing Ratchet and Clank 2 via the HD collection on PS3, for the first time. Played the original game at the very end of that generation, shortly before getting a 360 and packing away the PS2. Even loving that first game, I'm surprised by how well this holds up. It's still so much fun.

The title almost sounds like some arthouse porn film.

Or lyrics from a Goldfrapp song.

Crossing Souls - Nintendo Switch

Only put an hour into it so far, it reminds me of Oxenfree. It’s an action/adventure set in 1986 and you play as a group of kids who find a mysterious device that allows you to see the dead. It has little cut scenes that are reminiscent of 80’s Saturday morning cartoons! I quite like it so far, lots of nods to classic 80’s pop culture.

Metal Gear Solid Revengeance - Xbox One

Picked this up in the sale. Always did love the metal gear world but with bayonetta combat. About 3 bosses in and loving it. It explains nothing to the player but it's worth sticking with for the combat and the brilliant slow motion slashing mode.

Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey
Still working through this, good to dip into when I have a spare 20-30 minutes. Always something to work towards and different challenges on each level, so it’s a good mix.

Max Payne 3
Started this over the weekend, probably a couple of hours in. I quite like it…satisfying gunplay, looks decent, but I can see the narration becoming a bit overbearing. It’s very linear and plot-driven, which I don’t mind, but so far the plot isn’t all that engrossing. Hopefully it’ll pick up. Writing’s a bit iffy as well.

Tales of Symphonia
Started this as well, as I was craving a bit of JRPG action. Enjoyable so far, looks good (I’m using an upscaler with the Gamecube) and the fundamentals: battles, equipment, world map, etc all seem decent. Barely scratched the surface here but the signs are good.

It does a bit.

It was a great game to start with, you dont control the people you control time (ish) and move it forward and back and certain items let you control time for specific things in the puzzle. It was great until the last 4 levels which just didn't have the same "fun" to the previous ones and had some bit that felt like they bent the rules set out in the previous levels.

Was an Xbox Game Pass game so not soemthing I would have even considered normally, but yeah not bad.

The camera in this game is strawberry floating atrocious at times. Could've been mitigated by not having indoor levels.
