So DayZ 1.04 has hit console, played for HOURS tonight. They’ve finally introduced a mechanic to stop Server hopping. If you leave a Server and join another it will spawn you back on the coast, you’ll still have all your loot but you’ll miles away from. Tier 3-4 loot.

It essentially means you’re locked to that server as it’d be such a pain to be on coast again. As this is quite a big update, loads of stuff added, (throwing mechanic added - throw any of your loot) Grenades, new guns, scopes, night vision goggles, new cars, zombies wearing loot, there’s a so many improvements, the servers are all full, takes several minutes to get into a Server.

I prefer FPP and I’ve been doing ok, thry’ve increased Gun shot sounds to 3.5km so when I hear a distant gunshot I don’t crap myself as much. That being said, I spent last 30mins running through the pitch black night time, I have a head Torch that turns everything Red for some reason, it’s almost more scary using it but I do utilise it when I happen across a house to loot but I have it switched off when travelling as I’d be a walking target, you can just about make out the main roads so I’m using them at night. Love this game, it’s everything I thought’d be and more. I hope I get into a squad some day.

Oh it ran at a perfect 60fps and 4K (X1X) apart from the occasional server hitch.

Just started Hollow Knight again, I’d forgotten how gorgeous it is

Genuinely am going to stick with it till the end this time though, might not be a very high % run but still.

Cleared a couple of side quests in DQXI tonight. Got one left so far which involves two characters hitting pep mode. Given the random nature of pep mode this could take a while.

Just looking at that gif makes me feel on edge.

I don't handle horror games very well, especially first person ones.

IDGI, what's the survival horror aspect of that gif exactly? The fact that it's dark or something?

Still playing Spiderman on PS4. After considerable grinding Spidey is finally the kickass superhero I wanted him to be.

Chasing pigeons was fun.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Hollow Knight, just beat Hornet and returned to Dirtmouth to spend a bit of my geo. It was this stage last time I got lost and never really got back into it, guides open just in case I need it.

Edit, made some good progress so far, currently exploring City of Tears. At least I’m further than I was when I gave up last time.

Assassins Creed Odyssey - Finally started this. About 8 hours in and I'm enjoying it so far. It's certainly very polished - it looks and plays very well. I'm enjoying the setting, characters and plot more than Origins. Seems like a vast game with huge environments and lots of missions.

Finally got round to playing Ace Combat 7 and it's great.
It can be a little frustrating at times but it's got that just one more game feel and I'm looking forward to finally unlocking the Eurofighter which is my favourite current combat aircraft.

Have restarted Alien Isolation after giving up on it about a year ago. An hour or so in and it's already reminding me why I gave up on it. Attritional bollocks with broken stealth.

I too started this again recently and it reminded me of why it's one of my favourite games ever. The sense of place and time it invokes is unrivalled, and the plot is better than all Alien films since 2.

As a game I can definitely understand how it's an acquired taste though. It's very easy to become overly reliant on hiding and stealth and the game does little to encourage you to be bold. When you get the flamethrower, for example, it never explicitly states you can use it to chase the Alien off. During my first playthrough sections like the Server Farm took me aaaaaages as I painstakingly stalked my way through. This time I just pegged it through the area, blasting the xenomorph whenever it appeared.

I strawberry floating love it though

Alien Isolation is something of a Masterpiece imo, as Tad says, it’s plot is better than anything Alien related after 2, as it’s in canon, it would make a good movie tbh.

I thought someone did mention using the flamethrower to scare the Alien off... maybe it was a text log or something. I’m sure somewhere it mentions how it’s an animal and animals are typically afraid of fire.

It learns too. Once you’ve singed it a couple of times it gets wary of you as soon as you brandish the flamethrower.

Jumped on Planet Coaster for the first time since the beginning of the year. Spent about six hours coasting along in one of the medium scenarios barely making enough to add new things to the park, endlessly taking out loans just to place rides when I could. For the first two in-game years I had nothing except two rides and three stalls.

I think it might need another restart, as the situation doesn't look like it'll be changing anytime soon. I managed to complete the easy objectives, though, so that's something.

Almost reaching the conclusion of Rise of the Tomb Raider. I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Not quite as much as the first one, but thoroughly entertaining nonetheless. I played the other one twice (PS3 and PS4) and I think I may even do the same here as there’s quite a few extras on the 20th Anniversary edition (which I already own anyway) that requires separate purchases on Xbox/Game Pass.

Storyline has been nonsensical in places (trying to smash a window repeatedly with a fire extinguisher when by this point in the game she is tooled up with every weapon under the sun; singlehandedly taking out Trinity, and then The Deathless when nobody else could manage it) but in terms of playability I’ve loved it.

The framerate is really murdering the Xbox One X in later stages but it also looks superb, with phenomenal HDR lighting and very atmospheric environments.

There’s a complex puzzle in the observatory that really reminded me of old school Raider as it’s one of the very rare moments that requires genuine timing and platforming skill. Get it wrong and you’re dead.

I'm playing Forager on Switch; it's the only game I've played over the past week or so. Great fun and hugely addictive. I hope to be playing No Man's Sky Beyond when it launches tomorrow... so excited to try it out!
