I think I had a little trouble with a couple of bosses, but, you level a little or go get some different gear/shards to help.

The joy of being able to grind out a few more levels if you get particularly stuck :)

Just done the first boss, wasn’t expecting amazing performance on the Switch but playing it and then watching the same boss fight on YouTube on the PS4 seems like a huge difference, not only in graphics but the Switch version just looks and feels really slow? I’ll be continuing playing it of course as I’ve nothing else new to play till Link’s Awakening releases on the 20th of September.

Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age (Switch) - Just got to the point where the characters can take on a second job. Enjoying it a lot, particularly the range of customisation of characters which seems very unusual for a JRPG. The quality of life enhancements are also fantastic, I can't image playing vanilla FF XII as the speed toggle and increased gambit options make going through some of the long, linear sections a breeze. Also like that 50% of the main party are actually interesting characters. All in all, top notch and maybe one of my favourite FF's. It's also leading to me understand more about why FF XIII was quite so hated at the time of it's release, the dropping of the customisation coupled with even more linear sections does seem like a step backwards.

Playing Hey Pikmin and really enjoying it, just st started the 7th sector, wish I'd played it sooner but it got a bit of a bad rep on release.

Tried Bloodstained a couple of times, not really clicking so far. Not sure if it’s because I’ve got it in my head it doesn’t feel right or if the input delay really is that bad on the Switch, also considering the visuals on show on the Switch version it really shouldn’t be struggling to hit a constant 30fps. The load times are also terrible at some points even early on I’ve encountered.

I’m surprised the main bulk of the issues haven’t been patched out yet, it’s been out nearing 2 months now and considering they said most of the work by the team was being dedicated to the Switch version after the issues it’s got I’m a little surprised the port still feels this off, hindsight is a wonderful thing but I kind of wished I’d changed to a PS4 or Xbox One version now...

i think i played for nearly 8 hours straight today after work? it's nice to play a game where I dont really have to be violent if i dont want to

Civ V is scarily addictive. It’s not a game I often load up these days but when I do it’s hard to put down

I had the sudden desire to play battlefield again so redownloaded BF4. It's still got a decent population, which is nice. I'm still terrible at sniping or close range combat but enjoy bombing around in vehicles.

Still on a break from DQXI I’ve gone back to Voodoo Vince on XBOX. Not sure how far through this I am but I estimate around half way (just did a level in a graveyard where you had to move spotlights). I’m gonna try and get it finished either today or tomorrow.

Telling Lies.

Sam Barlow's follow-up to Her Story, and it is excellent.

The setup is essentially the same: you're a character browsing through a video library using keywords, trying to piece together a story. Or a version of a story at least, as unlike Her Story there are multiple characters and locations and plots all happening at once.

And yeah, it's brilliant. You start with nothing, and by the end of my first run my in-game notepad was filled with dates and names and happenings. At the end of the second, I migrated to a real notepad file which was also filled up. I've gotten two of what I assume is the three endings (although there's probably a secret 4th ending for watching every video or something). In both of my runs I watched about half of the vids (which was around 90) but I definitely haven't seen them all yet.

It's flawed, some of the clips are over 10 minutes long and there's no 'Skip to the start/end' button meaning you have to scrub through them at a max of x3 speed. That's a lot of rewinding. There's also no real goal to achieve, the game ends after the in-game clock hits a set time so once I figured out what was happening in the two plotlines I followed the rest of the time was spent noodling around. But the stories it does tell are very well done, fantastically acted, and amazing to discover.

Going to leave it for a bit then attempt to get the third ending. I can't stop thinking about it.

I think I’m near the end in Voodoo Vince now but the level I’m on currently is really pissing me off.

It’s set in a fair/carnival, there is virtually no solid ground apart from an outer ring around the area and most of the level consists of jumping across moving fairground rides suspended above a bottomless pit

Medal of Honor: Frontline on XBOX. I played through this on GameCube years ago and remember enjoying it but it’s definitely showing it’s age now.

No checkpoints and having to start a 20 plus minute mission from the beginning if you die is a massive nuisance.

I guess maybe checkpoints and auto saves weren’t the norm back in 2002 but Halo came out around half a year prior to this and had them.

Hyrule Warriors - Switch - The best warriors game ever. I've unlocked young link and I'm spending all my cash on levelling him up while using Link and Linkle as my mains. A brilliant game to drop into and see almost instant progress.

Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.

After finishing another game in my backlog, this was next. Still a horrible collection, so horrible they can’t spell collection properly. Switched it to very easy  .

That isn’t very easy you morons. Some sadist type probably came up with that idea. I wouldn’t feel so frustrated if the ai would stop spamming the same super duper turbo eating your Heinz spaghetti & toast dues ex machina moves.

It’s like I’m fighting those silly sausages online who can’t fight to save their own lives. If your one of those types who’s a bit of a pansy & spams I’m talking about you. Yes you. Look at you, your a little bitch.

However I’ve made progress, I can now make it to the endurance stages but think I’m gonna go play something else before I lose my rag. This game can suck my arse.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
Think I’ve played about 6-7 hours on this now, and have completed nearly all of the Missions and just have a couple of GPs left on Expert difficulty.
It’s fun overall – usual issue of cheating AI as with any kart racer – but good all the same. Feels about the right length, although some of the characters are a bit gooseberry fool (Shadow, Big, and some of the others feel a bit like they were scratching around for characters to fill the roster).

Fable 3
I’ve become King now…just trying to accrue enough money to fend off the attack, although doing that while not breaking all my promises and sentencing the entire population of Albion to a life of poverty and despair seems unlikely. Not sure how you’re supposed to balance that, or if you can, but I’m not sure I really care that much anyway. I’m still having fun, except for the tedious combat / the relentless hordes of enemies that I’m always having to fend off.

Medal of Honor: Frontline on XBOX. Getting really frustrated by the whole no checkpoints schtick. Replaying a 20 mins plus mission because you died part way through is not fun.

The mission I was playing last night was a frigging pain in the arse. It was set on a massive bridge but the draw distance was terrible meaning I was often killed by enemies I couldn’t even see.

Getting a little bored of MoH: Frontline, maybe I’m doing it wrong but each mission seems to last way too long like 30-40 mins so I’ve decided to play something else for a bit.

I bought Layers of Fear on the PlayStation store last night and started it this afternoon. Despite it being a walking simulator where you aren’t ever in any danger it’s really scary, the atmosphere is spot on.

EDIT: Also giving Quantum Redshift a bash, good game, looks and plays great but the system for earning money to upgrade your vehicle is a nuisance.

Decided to just crack on with Bloodstained and to be honest I’m still finding it underwhelming overall? Seems like there is a good game there but the input lag has just made me miss a jump a few times in a row leading me to trek all the way back to said jump. Doesn’t sound like much but little things are just spoiling the experience currently but I’m going to persevere, ideally will have this completed by the time Link’s Awakening comes out.

Edit, jumping between some screens is just daft as well, never quite sure if you need to keep the jump button held for a few seconds or not.
