Got back my Wii U the other day after I let my cousins borrow it for a year or so. Had a few games I hadn't played through yet in mind: Pikmin 3, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Luigi U, but was suddenly in the mood for Twilight Princess HD so have been playing a bit of that.

Hit me with a wave of nostalgia as I haven't played through the original game in so long, but at the same time I've forgotten a lot of it so it's been pretty refreshing as well. I know that graphically this game is considered kind of dull (or just kind of dull in general) but I thought they looked great at the time. Now the character models do look a bit odd to me now but they are distinctly of this game. I still like them and the overall look of the game.

It helps that I was really rather fond of this game since I believe I did 100% it and it's probably the only Zelda game I bothered to 100% - asides from maybe Minish Cap but that may have just been kinstones.

I have escaped the clutches of Stardew Valley and have been dipping in and out of the following:

Diablo 3 - trying to learn how to effectively play as the Necromancer, have found a build that works fairly well.
Pathways
Graveyard Keeper
Paint it Back (Picross)
Cosmic Express (cute but mind bendingly difficult puzzle game)

Still knocking away at Dead Cells. I've finished 3 runs now. I want to see all the areas, and I think I've only got maybe one or two more to see. Stupidly left the graveyard via the wrong exit, forgot I'd been to the Forgotten Sepulcher already, so I missed a new area I hadn't been in yet.

I hate that Conjunctivitis boss. He's harder than the hand of the king for me

This game is a 9/10 for me. It's fantastic. The amount of distinctly different and interesting unlockables is crazy.

Finally started Octopath Traveller last night and aside from having difficulty playing it using the onscreen keyboard (mouse is locked inside the game window so the onscreen keyboard has to be positioned entirely within it to be useable) it seems promising.

Could do without the 'ye olde englishe' speech though :dread:

Have you tried Borderless gaming for it?

Not sure if has a borderless option, I think it's either fullscreen or windowed .

I've increased the windowed resolution a bit so the onscreen keyboard doesn't obscure the action too much.

There's a program on Steam called Borderless gaming.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3880 ... ss_Gaming/

Borderless Gaming forces borderless-fullscreen mode in any game. Stream at any resolution while still being able to easily alt-tab out as if you were in windowed mode. No more risk of crashing in badly optimized games when you want to switch songs or check your email.

A lot of games run smoother when running in a window, the need for V-Sync goes out the window, it's simple to use and you can click and forget. No more apps with overly complex methods of adding games or useless features bloating up your system resources.

It's also open source so anyone can contribute to making it the best tool out there. See the links in the side bar for the releases/source code. When you buy Borderless Gaming you're choosing to support the development. You can always get it free on Github if you're lacking coins.

It may be worth you looking into it, so you can see if it'll be a more comfortable and easy setup :D

Metal Gear Solid 5 - The Phantom Pain

I'm not too far into this (4 episodes in) but I'm really enjoying how it's setting itself up. I've only ever played Twin Snakes on the GC and MGS2 on the Xbox from the MGS series so I didn't really know what to expect from an open world Metal Gear game in Afghanistan but so far I've found it really entertaining. Sneaking into bases has been vintage Metal Gear, exactly what I'd expect, but all the other systems, base building and resource collecting and the like are really intriguing and I'm looking forward to exploring them more.

In a weird way I think the location is really helping my enjoyment too. One thing I sometimes suffer from with open world games is wanting to see everything and become familiar with the map which kinda weighs me down. Thanks to the map being largely barren and unexciting, I don't feel that need at all and am happy just bouncing from objective to objective.

Also, what the strawberry float is with every episode starting and ending with credits too :slol: Kojima :fp:

I really did enjoy the Phantom Pain, it's gameplay was awesome and very creative also the open world was really enjoyable to explore, also the 80's cassette tapes were a big highlight, calling your helicopter down with Take on Me playing at full blast was great. Just a shame the story was frankly crap and unfinished. If we ever do get a MGS 6 all Konami have to do is copy and paste this gameplay and set it in a different area, maybe add a few new mechinics it isn't that hard tbh.

I've got back to Medievil to complete all the lost souls as I've seen the reward for doing that is rather lovely trip down memory lane.

You can apply lots of different upgrades to all sorts of stuff - weapons, equipment, vehicles etc. (not sure if this only unlocks after a certain point)

One of the helicopter upgrades is basically massive speakers that will make it play a song on arrival. :datass:

One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 - love warriors games and Neve played this one. Done a couple of levels and it's very colourful and over the top. Upgrade system seems different and the combat is as satisfying as ever.

Wish my image sig would work

Yakuza Kiwami. I’ve just played the first couple of chapters and despite a whole load of talking for the most part I’m enjoying it thus far.

My Time at Portia (Switch) - Played quite a few hours over the last week and it's a game that ticks a lot of boxes for me. It's essentially Stardew Valley X MMO X free mobile game in that it has the same basic concept as Stardew albeit in 3d but with more fetch quests and grinding like a MMO along with countdown timers like a FTP mobile game. The focus is really on crafting things and the complexity of the crafting and the grinding required to collect all the resources you need is quite time consuming. I'd imagine quite a few people would run away screaming from something like this as the progression is slow and the repetitive nature of the gameplay loop could be off putting. But it's very relaxing, quite mindless. I imagine I'll grow bored of it when the next interesting single player game comes along but for now I'm happy to grind.

More Octopath Traveler.

Done everyone's first chapters but have neglected to level up enough to tackle the 2nd chapters so desperately need to grind for experience but can't find anywhere suitable.

There's supposed to be a good spot in a cave near to one of the towns (Cobblestone I think) but I can't find it even though it's on the map.

I hit chapter 4 in Yakuza Kiwami this afternoon. I picked up the Trouble Finder and for now I’m just playing through as many sub-stories as I can before moving on with the main plot.

WoW - I did something I've wanted to do for ages. I hid and asked people to find me, with first person doing so getting 10g  2 people found me and I was 15g lighter. It was funny seeing the first one find the room but then leave without looking properly. He found me again after I gave him a hint.

About to start DMC5.

Disco Elysium

Only a couple of hours into this really, and the deliberate sense of obscurity in the plot, world, your own identity, and your next plan of action is making a little tricky to fully get into. But it's very compelling, and I want to uncover the mystery underpinning the plot, as well as the presumably various mysteries hanging off it. It just needs my undivided attention and time to do so.

The music is absolute magic though, particularly this track from very near the beginning of the game.

Yyyyyeeeeessss.

What build did you go for? I made a custom cop, high on intelligence but brittle as you like. Killed myself 3 times in a row trying to get the tie off the ceiling fan.

I'm currently on day 3 and it remains entrancing. As you say, the experience is akin to reading a book more than binging a TV show: you need to concentrate on what you're doing as everything is connected. I'm pretty sure it's my GOTY.
