It was like a much better realised version of what skyward sword did in certain parts, imo

Yeah, you're right. It was a nice concept in Skyward Sword, but the energy of Titanfall's level made it much more exhilarating and exciting. Plus, the moment when you realise what is happening, is superb

SS works well with the limitations it has, but yeah Titanfall does it better

Rudolphin wrote:Playing through it again, honestly the most impressive level to me was the factory. It's another incredibly well handled reveal and the tension throughout that level relies entirely on the ever increasing mystery of what the hell is actually going on. Not to mention it's incredibly impressive from a visual and design point of view, and the weird droning soundtrack means everything feels incredibly sinister (also in terms of time travel levels, Dishonored 2's A Crack In The Slab did it better than TF2 the very same year, probably why I don't view Effect & Cause as this game's highlight)

And yeah, the opening is a little slow but it does as well as possible given it has a buuuuuunch of mechanics to teach you.

In general the game does a good job of telling a cohesive narrative across single levels, which is another reason its campaign is so good
I remember finding the platforming in the factory great fun

The narrative is great, I love the buddy nature of the relationship.

I might replay it

GTA Online: The Cayo Perico Heist. Oh, why did I ever think this would be easy? Why did I ever think that they'd make it easy because it was available to complete solo? The most ridiculously broken super aim-botting infinitely respawning AI to ever grace a mission in any GTA ever. And the payout at the end of it isn't even worth the torture. The stealth is also terrible, with the smallest of things tripping an alarm that cannot be undone, bringing every single enemy to you to be shot at endlessly, thus wasting already limited ammo to defend yourself until you inevitably fail die, get respawned, and have only a few seconds to quickly get away otherwise you'll end custom raup spawn-camped and without any lives remaining, thus failing the heist.

With another player, I'm sure it would be doable even if still impossibly impossible without spamming armour and snacks. For the "biggest ever update", it sure feels one of the worst. I had hoped it'd be better than this, but expecting that from a seven year old game that's nothing but a lure for sharkbait seems like it's asking a bit too much these days. I'll just stick to hot-lapping the various custom races, I think.

Titanfall 2

Eeeeh, I'm not getting it :(

It's clearly a very good FPS and the flow of the action feels great but it's not wowing me. Maybe I've been spoilt by Doom Eternal but this definitely isn't living up to the hype.

I'll finish it and then forget about it, most likely.

4 levels in eh?

Effect and Cause next then :datass:

Oh god, I remember this one :datass:

That was extremely cool.

Where are you up to? It doesn't show its best side at the start.

As of that post, I'd just finished the time travel level. Is that about half way?

Pretty much yeah.

I think if you're that far and it hasn't clicked with you then you're probably not going to have a massive change of heart in the remaining parts.

That's a shame. As I say, it is very fun and feels great but I think I've played it too late. It probably would've wowed me back on release. And having played both Doom Eternal and Dishonored 2 in the past few months has spoiled me.

Dishonored 2 would spoil anything IMO, such a good game.

Are Doom Eternal and Titanfall 2 really that similar? Dishonored certainly isn't in the same genre, and I would say Doom and Titanfall are in different subgenres at least

They are all very different games but even so I can still see how moving between them might highlight areas where one is weak against another.

For me, Doom and Titanfall 2 are both FPSs with a focus on constant motion and managing a variety of enemy types at once. Doom does it better. The Dishonored comparison comes in specifically for the time travel mechanic, which I think Dishonored was more inventive with. I'm not ragging on Titanfall though, I just wish I'd played it first.

Titanfall 2 is so good. I loved the single player and even got into the multiplayer. The random bots on each map and the excitement of a titan drop was brilliant. Also all titans are equally useable. Though I always came back to the flame powered one.

Wish my image sig would work

The addition of a feature where you and BT have little conversations mid level where you can choose a response is such a small thing of itself but at least for me added a huge amount to the delivery of the narrative and really built up the buddy aspect of it

One of my great video game regrets is that I played Titanfall 2 in 2020 when the multiplayer was already dead

Having finished RE2 remake with Leon I thought I’d give the Claire B scenario a go... initial thoughts 1) why do I get a handgun that uses 2 rounds per shot and different ammo to the regular handgun? and 2) why does that Mr X banana split turn up around 20 minutes in?

Got two weeks off work. Own literally hundreds of games I've never played. So obviously time to play Skyrim again. Playing on Series X with quite a few mods installed so not sure if it's just going to break.
