Witcher 3

Recently made it to Novigrad, which I was looking forward to, because I've always read people raving about it, but it feels like the game's taken a bit of a slump. Sure, the city's big, and feels "alive", especially compared to the hamlets and villages I've been in before, but it just makes the copy paste NPC models all the more obvious. Apparently half this city's female population are "strumpets"? I think this might even pip GTA for just using women as titillating set dressing. Besides that, ever since I got here, quests have just become a shopping list of tertiary characters to visit, so I can have some dialogue that will set up the next set of characters for me to run after. It all feels a bit repetitive and uninteresting at the moment.

Just started playing Kerbal Space Program.

It's taken up so much of time this weekend! Going through the career mode and got into orbit without too much trouble... only to realise I didn't have the fuel to get back. Sent another 2 ships up to attempt a rescue only to have the same thing happen. I was so annoyed at myself with the third one in particular as I still had another stage left, but hadn't realised the previous stage had drunk all my fuel from being connected side by side to my tanks. Got a 4th ship up there now with plenty of fuel, but matching orbit with any of the other 3 is going to take a while to learn I think. Gone through setting a target, then setting up a manouver at at ascend/descend node, but not got the hang of it yet.

Making decent progress in Star Ocean First Departure on PS4. I currently have to gather knowledge of a demon world from the kings of each continent. I also polished off a pretty tough optional dungeon which was a bit off the beaten track and even managed to forge/acquire some petrify proof armour so I'm quietly confident in actually finishing the game this time. The base game that is as I understand a lot of grinding may be required for the optional post game stuff.

I also finished the second main chapter of Dragon Quest IV on iOS on the commute to work this morning. I'll likely crack on with chapter 3 on the way home this afternoon. I like the structure of this game, you play several shorter chapters as smaller groups of characters before they all eventually meet up with the hero and the main quest begins.

Because of the Lockdown we bought a desk for me to work on, it's sat in living room next to the TV. I setup my old xbox to the monitor I used for work and over the past couple of month I've been playing online with my daughter, her using my work monitor and me on the 4KTV. As such, we've played quite a lot of games, not always together, she completed Breath of the Wild on the Monitor while I played/watched things on TV but we do play a lot of co-op games. Sea of Thieves is the main one, she's adamant that she wants to be a pirate legend and she's doing ok in that regard. She's a big help on the sloop and her fishing is getting better. We're now playing Halo MCC and Gears 5 as well as obviously Minecraft Dungeons which is great to chill out and relax to.

Currently sat playing Doom Classic on ps3.

Playing the Plutonia Experiment, on level 17, just saved as I dropped behind a brick wall now I can’t get out. So when I restart I’ll lose all my weapons, ammo, health & armour.

I want to start replaying MGS V but I'm absolutely hooked on Sekiro at the minute. It's my first time playing and so far it has the potential to be my favourite FromSoftware game, even over Bloodborne.

Got to '2 betrayals' in Halo MCC last night with daughter. She gasped when Cortana explained that if John activated the rings it would kill all sentient life. "oh my god" she whispered. Crazy playing Halo with someone who never played it before!

She's also a huge HUGE fan of Kait from Gears 5.

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (Switch)
A good few hours into this and it's very enjoyable. I adored the second game on Switch when it came out in 2017 and am mainly just hoping that this gives me the same level of enjoyment, early signs are positive!

Doom [1993] (PC)
Been continuing to dabble in the speedrunning aspects of this recently. It's always been something that I've had a reasonable level of interest in but having watched some more videos about it lately I thought I would start giving it a go myself whilst streaming the game. Been looking at getting some times on the "UV Speed" and "UV Max" categories for the first level E1M1 Hangar, having looked into it more it seems that whilst I'm obviously nowhere near the records for these my times are actually not completely gooseberry fool either! :toot:

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Enjoying this quite a lot, but the insistence on forcing you to use shitty motion controls makes the game less enjoyable, and more frustrating, than it should've been.

Mario Golf Toadstool Tour
I'd tried to get into this before, but struggled, as it's quite inferior to the Mario Golf on N64. This time though I'm enjoying it, although some of the course design isn't great.

Mario Kart Double Dash
Probably my least favourite Mario Kart game. Courses aren't great, the music is very annoying with little variety across tracks, and having two characters adds nothing to the experience.

The Simpsons Hit & Run
I've played this before but I can't remember how far I got on it. Started again recently and it's good. Looks decent, obviously has all the correct voices and music, and it's made me chuckle a few times as well. The odd difficulty spike here and there, but not too bad so far.

I don't see the appeal of Just Cause, played both 3 and 4 on Xbox Gamepass (and on X1X) and they....well, it gets boring.

I need to get 4. Just Cause 2 was fantastic, while 3 was hamstrung by awful loading times.

The appeal is very much in the sandbox destruction and messing around with the tether

That has been fixed for 4 thankfully.

I'm pleased to report there is indeed, plenty of stuff to mindlessly blow up.

Yeah they are great games, so many ways to just have fun pissing about with explosives and tethers!

The performance in 4 is much better than 3 as well which helps a lot (although 3 only really had problems on console, it was pretty decent on PC)

Finding Assassins Creed 3 really confusing. There are icons everywhere on the map and I'm not sure what's what. It all feels a bit off though I quite like the setting and story.

Medievil, which would have been far more enjoyable had they left the lack of checkpointing back in 1998. As it is you’ve got to replay entire levels from the beginning again if you die.

I understand wanting to keep it faithful to the original, but keeping the same flaws (such as wonky collision detection and a camera that is prone to getting obscured by the scenery itself) just seems like a bizarre decision.

A perfect game for Sony to give away on PS Plus before the year is done, I think.
