Not really a huge Bioshock fan anyway. I think the second one is the best from a gameplay standpoint (Minerva's Den is a great bit of DLC).

What version did you play originally? I got it for the PC and it was s world away from the console version in terms of how it felt. Console version was yanky which really hampered the game feel. Loved zipping around on a Gsync 100+ FPS setup. This isn't a master race post as I've all but given up on PC gaming.

I played it on the 360. I think it was 30 fps, but not all the time

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

I dunno, the cutscenes are nice, but the gameplay is so brainless I’m getting bored already and I don’t think I’m even past the first part

Valkyria Chronicles 4

Valkyria Chronicles. Valkyria Chronicles never changes. It's remarkably similar to previous games in the series, especially to the first game which was the only other one released on home consoles (of the main series, anyway). It runs on assumedly the same engine and it seems to have all the same quirks with the gameplay, the way the AI behaves and all the same kind of jank.

Graphically, though it looks very nice, it didn't seem too dissimilar to the original game, especially since I played it on a decent PC back in the day so the output would have been the same 1080p60fps. So then I redownloaded it because I was curious and wanted to compare - big download, thankfully my internet is okay these days - and well I was greeted with what seemed to be a lower-res prerendered cutscene so you got me there Sega. The new cutscenes are much better, and not just because it boasts more modern animations.

Environments do look noticeably better in the latest game too but again it was a bit surprising how relatively little had changed. I guess there is a little less you can do with this artstyle compared to others, granted, and it's a credit to how well the first game aged too.

The game itself has been decent, anyway. It keeps itself fresh with the gimmicks it introduces every so often, and the different ways you can approach maps. You can still cheese the game like in previous games - VC2 felt particularly bad for that - but that's not as much of an issue here, and it doesn't seem to be much more effort to do things the 'proper' way.

I'm mostly liking the story in this one too. I was low key a bit disappointed that in VC1 that you didn't lead a Federation army, but one in a smaller army involved in the conflict - even if the stakes do get high and involve key players in the war. VC2 and 3 (the latter of which I have barely played, mind) were similar in this regard, but now you are leading a Federation army.

So yeah, it's alright. Not blown away or anything, and I do still feel the series is not quite hitting its full potential, but I got this pretty cheap and I'm liking it well enough.

I finally killed the Blue Smelter Demon in Dark Souls 2 then moved onto Sir Alonne. He gave me a bit of lip to begin with but he definitely seemed beatable. He’s now defeated and I’m about done with DLC2. Just gotta build some souls to cash in a boss soul reward and I’m ready to move on to DLC3.

Nioh 2 - DLC 2 - more of the same Nioh 2 but with more added systems to manage. I feel sorry for anyone coming to this game post DLC, so many levels additional nonsense.

The additional enemies look nice and the bosses I've fought have been fun so far. It's all a bit late though, if only they had just released a complete game rather than adding huge bits of dlc months later when most people have moved on.

Also playing Skyrim on switch lite, I always go mage, friendly and using fire. This time I've gone dark elf mage, using lightning and pure evil. The urge to shout "unlimited powerrrrrrr" when zapping passing creatures is strong.

Started Amnesia this morning and I'm really enjoying it. Love the Lovecraftian atmosphere and the darkness mechanic creates some good tension. Very creepy and eerie. Being called Daniel IRL only heightens the experience :dread:

Also played a couple of hours of 80 Days yesterday and found it to be a wholly relaxing game. Very pleasant and quaint. Looking forward to continuing my journey.

Just finished Jedi Academy, well did the last mission twice so I could get the dark and light side ending. Means I can focus solely back on The Witcher 3 now.

Just finished Uncharted 4.

I've always enjoyed the Uncharted games without ever really loving them, but I really felt this was the most enjoyable of the lot. Loved the slightly more grounded story without the supernatural elements, and I do love stuff involving pirates. It felt like there was less combat too which is another positive for me, and at times it just looked outstanding. Not just the graphical quality, but the way they set up these amazing views.

Back on with The Witcher 3 for now, just wrapping up some Witcher contracts before leaving Skellige behind for now, not going to bother with the treasure hunts for the other Witcher gear as I’ll only be wearing the School of the Bear stuff.

Nioh 2 - finished off the new dlc and now back to the grind.

Skyrim - decided to try to focus on the main quest, off to see the grey beards. Visit one cave and get turned into a vampire. Spent all evening doing a quest to cure it.

Still playing Guacamelee.

In the Great Temple & the devs thought it was a good idea to add the most random of things. Portals. No where in the game do these exist & yet they are just randomly here on the final part of the game, slowing me down along with the constant barrage of rooms with 118 118 dial up a bad guys.

I can’t roll my eyes hard enough.

Sometimes I think devs throw their gooseberry fool at the wall & see what sticks.

Until Dawn - playing this with my wife and we're almost finished. Great fun and different people have died compared to our first play through so it's interesting seeing different things happen.

Amnesia - finished this this morning and I adored it. Puzzles were pleasing and they nailed the Lovecraftian vibe. Never played the expansion or sequel so I'll be started the expansion tomorrow.

Bloodstained Curse of the Moon - it's fun enough but I dislike the linear levels. I understand it's emulating the very early Castlevania games but it's nothing compared to the proper game.

Tony Hawk's 1+2 - still playing this every now and then and it's still fantastic.

Super Mario Galaxy - only got 1 star this afternoon but it's so good and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in

Dark Souls - I've lost count how many times I've played this but it's nice to dip in for an hour and post a quick update on the DS topic

Still occasionally playing a bit of Hitman and Resident Evil 3 as well. And Doom Eternal is arriving tomorrow.

Spent probably too much time playing The Witcher 3 (probably roughly about 6 hours), but thoroughly loving it equally! It definitely feels like I’m nearing the end of the main quest but from what I hear the DLC are just as good as the main game so something to look forward too!

Might actually wait till I’ve got this fully done before moving on to the Pokémon DLC out this week.

Played a little more Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night today. I offed a few bosses and reached what I assume in the tradition of Castlevania games was the fake ending.

I then reached something of an impasse and couldn’t really see any other areas left to explore with my current abilities but it would seem I just failed to read what a particular shard did.

That’s enough for today I think.

Second sequel releases tonight too, and this one is made by the original guys, whereas Machine for Pigs is a different developer.

Yeah I spotted that last night and bought it. Looks really interesting and perfect timing! I finished Machine this morning and it was enjoyable but not a patch on the original. Rebirth sounds like a return to form and I like the look of the different setting.

I genuinely thought The Chinese Room made the first Amnesia. That's some backwards sequel developer memory I had going

Crown Trick

This is lovely, a turn based rogue-like with a cartoonish 2D look and loads of charm, presentation is excellent and the music is great.

I'm about an hour into Amnesia Rebirth and so far it's.... really strawberry floating boring.

Like, I don't really know what I'm meant to be doing. I'm just wandering through caves, and sometimes they get a bit weird, but so long as I follow the glowy thing on my arm that was robbed from Cowboys Vs Aliens then it's fine? Apparently I've got matches to light things, but there's no reason to? There doesn't seem to be a penalty for just wandering in the dark except on screen hints shouting 'IF YOU ARE IN THE DARK YOU WILL GET SCARED' and I'm like 'OF. strawberry floating. WHAT?'.

It started off quite smart (in the desert) seeming to invert the Amnesia 1 thing saying 'You shouldn't stay in the bright light too long' and I thought it was going to invert the original's thing about sanity and light but nah, you just go for a jog, find a cave and... all that's out the window. Again, I'm only an hour in, maybe it all comes back.

My biggest issue is that I don't know what I'm meant to be doing. I'm just wandering in caves and sometimes my arm lights up. There's no tension because I don't know what the goal is so I don't know how significant a barrier random gooseberry fool is. I just walked into a cutscene where I'm in a baby's bedroom and then the room falls apart and there's a huge foetus in the void outside my vision and I'm like IS THIS IMPORTANT? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? LAST TIME I CHECKED 'MY PLANE CRASHED, LETS FIND SURVIVORS' WAS THE PLOT NARRATIVE SO WHAT THE strawberry float IS THIS gooseberry fool?'

Yea, I'll keep with it, but nothing has any weight thus far, so I'm not sure how long I'll give a gooseberry fool about wandering around shitty Skyrim vaults.
