I finished the main campaign in FFIII now I have huge grind ahead of me before attempting the optional super boss, The Iron Giant.

In the mean time I fancied a bit of a change of pace. I haven’t played through an FPS in the longest time so I decided to dip into my XBOX collection and started Black last night.

I’m a couple of missions in and this is a lot of fun, just gooseberry fool blowing up all over the shop, it’s pure action movie. One thing I’ve noticed is that it’s very dark, granted there last level I did was at night but it’s really hard to see where you’re going. I might have to tinker with the brightness on my TV I think.

After nine years and three failed attempts, Deus Ex: Human Revolution has finally clicked with me and I’m thoroughly enjoying the story and gameplay. Currently in Hengsha, hoping to make some significant story progress tonight after work.

Still plugging away at FFXIII which is like a warm blanket loveliness with stunning visuals and amazing music. Thoroughly enjoying it.

Amazing what the Xbox back compat team can do:

Up to the penultimate battle of Fire Emblem Three Houses and I'm just pushing myself to finish it at this point. The sudden dubstep is really irritating, actually.

It's my first FE game and I'm not sure I'd be rushing to buy the next one. It's a fairly decent strategy game wrapped up in a shitty, cliche anime plot that does nothing to excite me. I understand these games get a lot of love but there are far better strategy games out there.

The GBA and DS game's are great without the added anime nonsense (which admittedly I don't mind).

The Gamecube and Wii games are also good but start to get a little cliché in places.

What made it click this time do you think?

I don't really know, to be honest. I've always loved the renaissance influence and stylings of Deus Ex and the golden glow that seems to surround everything in HR, so knowing that I love the way it looks has helped. I think the last few times I've gone into it expecting quite a straight stealth/FPS game. This time it was a bit clearer that there are multiple routes and I'm a bit less overwhelmed. Coming off the back of two out-and-out FPS games(Halo: Reach and Crysis 2) it's nice to play something with a bit of nuance, too.

Thoroughly looking forward to hearing "I didn't ask for this" in its original context as well. I've been saying it to myself and cackling away whenever Jensen talks, keep missing plot points. :slol: :fp:

I had a similar experience with Final Fantasy IX, I started it several times over the years since it's launch and never made it far past the start of the second disc but tried it again a few years back it it just clicked. It's weird.

Fair enough! Is it the director's cut you're playing too? I've only played the original but the bosses are completely redone, which has always sounded appealing (you couldn't non-lethal them in the original).

Hated Human Revolution when I first played it on Xbox. I was trying to do a more action based gung ho approach, and the game clearly isn't balanced in that way on the whole (except the much hated boss fights).

I gave it another try on the Wii U, with a more stealth hacking approach, and it became apparent that I was very wrong about the game. It's excellent and I had a complete blast. The map being on the gamepad was also a small but very much appreciated touch. I loved having that in front of me and planning my approaches. I think it's legitimately my favourite third party title on Wii U.

I could have done without the Missing Link DLC being integrated into the story though. I found it pretty annoying being stripped of the abilities, Metroid style.

Playing currently with God of War 3, its awesome game. Once that completed I'm thinking of try finish The Last Of Us Remastered. I also play Call of Duty and PES 2020 keeps switching in between those 2 games too.

Back on with the DLC for Pokémon Shield, going to get through the story and then try and quickly fill in the dex so I can transfer them to Home again. Once I’ve got through this it’ll be focusing back on The Witcher 3, hopefully I’ll be able to get a good lot of that out of the way (now that I’ve opted not to obsess over every ‘?’ on the map ).

Gears Tactics

Just got to a battle against a Brumack (AKA huge ugly mummy strawberry floater with more guns than the US military ) which is causing no end of trouble.

Must be up to double figures with restarting the fight now.

I don't think it is, sadly, as I've had to murderise the first two major bosses. Currently in Hengsha for the second time and I think I'll be entering the endgame quite soon. Just met Hugh Darrow, who is
so painfully obviously in the Illuminati.

I've been trying to get the achievement for not setting any alarms off but have no idea if I'm progressing towards it or not.

EDIT: need to finish this soon, apparently I’ve become too engrossed in the stealthing about and have stopped talking to my wife. :fp:

Donkey Kong 64
Still enjoying this, for the most part. The worst aspect of it is easily the camera, it's just horrendous. Constantly battling with it to see what the hell you're doing. Levels have been good so far, but now I've got to the fifth world, the routine of going around the same levels with 5 different characters is starting to wear thin. It just feels like an ordeal rather than something you want to do, or enjoy doing. I think there were some good ideas in DK64, but it's so vast and needlessly drawn out.

Sleeping Dogs
I'm having a great time with this. There are some annoyances, for sure, but for the most part it's a blast. Lots of variety, always something different to do, enjoyable missions, exploring is fun - it's just great in so many areas. On Saturday I spent 4-5 hours in one sitting, which I haven't done with a game since probably Xenoblade Chronicles.

Human Revolution was a great game, it still falls short of the original in some key areas but it managed to scratch the Deus Ex itch far better than I had any expectation it would when it was first announced.

Mankind Divided is well worth a play as well if you get the chance. It makes some well considered improvements over Human Revolution in many areas but also brings a certain share of new wrinkles.

I’ve actually got Mankind Divided - picked it up cheap a year or two ago. Might pop it on once I’ve battered through HR and the DLC

Hard to know whether you'll benefit from a break in between to avoid Adam Jensen overload but if you've got it then I would definitely give it a go. If you like HR then Mankind Divided is largely more of the same
